But also didn't have the handspeed, upper body movement or left hook attack that Joe had to land systematically on Quarry.. Incidentally, the first fight between the Quarry and Frazier went 7 rounds, and Jerry was winning most of the early half of the fight... This was when Frazier was at his peak.

That said, I strongly believe that Rocky is winning this, but by no means is this an easy fight.

I like both fighters a whole lot but saying its close cause they both cut is not a way to compare a fight. I will compare style and punch. To me Rocky just flat out out fights him. Rocky is able to be out boxed "for a little while until he catches you or you get tired from being on the move and under pressure" but he has never been out punched. Quarry Could not out box Rocky and could not out punch him. Plus most of his big fights were losses inside the distance. Ali Chuvalo Frazier stopped him why not Rocky

If he fights in a phonebooth like he did against Frazier the fight wouldn't last as long.

perhaps but if all things are equal ( i dont think so) between rocky and frazier id go with the guy with the beter chin. marcaino.
however, IMO marciano had two hands and was harder to hit than frazier. I know what your saying, wallcot lands a left hook on rocky and he goes down so frazier does the same. But frazier stood square and was a rythem fighter, he sliped by moving his head to a programe rather than by antisipating individual shots. sadler told foreman to aim as fraziers head went down and pull the trigger when fraziers head came up and goldman would tell rocky the same.
The way rocky timed mathews and wallcot early in the rematch would not bode well for smoke.

In my opinion, Jerry would look good for a round or two, then Rocky would come on and win.

I believe Quarry would win this. The Rock's punches will not translate the way Frazier's did since Quarry would have a significant weight advantage.

being heavier dont make your chin or scar tisue tougher. Marciano dumped a lot of heavier guys, he was outweighed 27 times and KOd all of them. Liston was outweighed but a handfull of times and Kod 1 of them.
quary was a nicer boxer but he was too fond of trading off the ropes. He had a thirst for war and that was often his undoing. Nobody outdid rocky on the ropes.

Quarry had better skills and speed. Marciano had better power, and better late round stamina. The key difference to me is Marciano will to win and focus in the ring was superior to Quarry's. I'd go with Marciano to win via late round TKO. If, and its a big IF Quarry listed to a top trainer and carried out a game plan, he could win the decision.

I think Quarry's chin was a bit better than Walcott's, Charles' or Moore's, and his stamina was decent to go 15 as well.

I know I have a Philly bias, (although I like quarry as well!)....but I really can't see giving quarry anything but the first rd. It's been a few months though, so I may have to pull it back out again tonight. I was planning on a Lopez-Molina trilogy, but Frazier Quarry 1 and 2 will be just as much fun..and shorter! Peace

I like how Quarry is picked to win by a few posters.... GOOD! I said all along that Marciano would've thought dudes' like "Quarry & Bonavena" would've seemed like monsters had they been at their peaks in the 50s.....

Joe Frazier did face and struggle a tad with both Quarry and Bonavena, but he did win them fights....

I see a peak 206 to 209 pound Frazier handling a peak 187 to 190 pound Marciano in a time machine..... I gotta go with Smokin' Joe here.....

quarry's chin, in his brief prime, was great but both charles' and moore had AMAZING chins. can't say jerry's was better

Quarry had heart and loved a good fight but he fits right into Rocky's Plans....Rocky stops him somewhere bewtween 5 and 12 but Jerry takes 10

Oh, I think Marciano would definately kick his ass. No argument there. What I don't see happening, is an easy KO early. Quarry was one of the best counter punching heavyweights of all time, and a lot of his wins were generated by fighters walking or lunging into his shots. Marciano had the tendency to lunge forward at his opponents, but did not have the speed or upperbody movement that Frazier had to avoid a lot of those shots. Its not out of the realm of possibility that he could walk into some very hard punches and generate some of the power with his own momentum. I wouldn't be surprised to see the rock get decked once or twice for that very reason, and nor would I be shocked to see Quarry show heart, even after getting hit with Rocky's best. At the end of the day however, Quarry simply isn't going to win a battle of attrition, and his ring wits will only take him so far. I'm thinking that this one gets stopped by the referee or a cornerman somewhere between rounds 7-9.
