Just been watching some Mickeal Moorer at Light Heavy.

My goodness we forget how good Moorer was at 175, he was a beast! Its sad people just rememeber him as that grumpy fella who big George KO'd to make history.

I know he only stayed there for two or three years and simply couldn't make weight because the man loved his Burger King, but damn he was the man at 175 much like Spinks was. It's a shame that Michael couldn't have stayed at lhw for 10 years because we would have probably seen a late 90's clash with RJJ! I woulda gone with Moorer on size and that left hand but yikes, that would have been the decade fight!

top 5/6 l/w of all time?

Not watching anything today but I'll be busy at some point this week or next, just spent a few quid on a website. Bought Morales, Corrales, Gatti career sets and other single fights.

Evander Holyfield v Michael Dokes - A slightly underrated and forgotten HW slugfest....absolutely fantastic fight (which some kind kind soul uploaded to youtube recently ).....80s Holyfield was just a joy to watch

Frank Bruno v Jumbo Cummings - First big test for Frank and it almost went very badly! Bruno was so lucky to survive the first round after that right from Cummings.....no idea how he was still standing!

Victor Galindez v Ray Elson - Pretty underwhelming performance against a severly outmatched opponent although the left hooks and right uppercuts at the end of the fight were lovely from Galindez

Ricardo Lopez v Hideyuki Ohashi - This was were Finito picked up the title he was to hold on for so long....really fluid performance from him...put his combanations in with such ease against the game Japanese fighter...nice performance.

Gonna get stupidly high and watch an insane amount of boxing today I reckon :happy

No, he didn't fight anyone NEAR the class of anyone Spinks fought, and in terms of dominance (or even attributes) is not even a top 10 light heavy IMO.

    Here's some fighters that I wouldn't hesitate to rank over Moorer;

    Harold Johnson
    Ezzard Charles
    Archie Moore
    Lloyd Marshall
    Matthew Saad Muhammad
    Victor Galindez
    John Conteh
    Gene Tunney
    Harry Greb
    Michael Spinks
    Roy Jones Jr
    Dwight Muhammad Qawi
    Willie Pastrano
    Virgil Hill
    Bob Foster

Just a few (and in no particular order), and bar him having a 'punchers chance' (which against most of them he doesn't have either) I wouldn't see him beating any of them.

    :lol::good

Great fight wasnt it :good You could tell Holy and Dokes wanted to cause some damage to the other :yep

Just watched Victor Galindez v Yaqui Lopez I.....

Really tough fight but entertaining throughout......Galindez was a little beast but with some fine boxing ability thrown in...I really love his sneaky little left hooks he throws in...even when in trouble he can unleash it at any stage it seems.

I scored the fight 145-142 Galindez....

Amazing that Yaqui never won a world title but considering his 3 opportunities came against Conteh, Galindez and MSM its no suprise :scaredas:....definitely couldnt pick up a cheap title in those days :nono

Galindez is lucky in the 2nd Lopez fight though, too much rope-a-dope, though his counters, fast hooks and defensive movement is **** hot.

Best time for the Light-Heavys IMO was the mid-to-late 70's

    Toney vs Holyfield.

Anybody also think that Toney never got the proper credit for surgically breaking down Evander the way he did. Most people will immediately offset that notion by saying that Evander was washed up being battle worn, heart/shoulder problems etc, but I saw Toney do everything right in 9 rounds displaying his full arsenal. I am not 100% certain that Evander didn't dabble in steroid use between '96 through '03, so you will never see me hype Holyfield's bandwagon saying how "pure" he was for this sport.

I could never get tired of watching Toney though, The sad thing about James is he had so little flaws other then is lack of work ethic. Toney slipped and rolled like nobody in the buisness just imagine if he had Floyd's work ethic? Scary thinking about it.

If you ever want to teach your son how to slip, roll and turn at the corner, there is one fighter to watch: Toney. You only have to watch Toney v Barkley to see what it means to slip and never be in the same place twice. While I love Mayweather's pendelum roll where he turns it into an uppercut, the true slip and roll was Toney. I never knew anything about his legs but it stands to reason why James could never go into 5th gear with his offense...but defense, he had cheatah instincts!

One major problem that Toney had was his unusually small hands especially in the "box" or closed fist position. Couple this with his "burger king" discipline, it severly handicapped James north of 168. But as far as defense, instincts, granite chin and fear of absolutely no one, I think Lights Out is the textbook definition of throwback fighters and certainly belongs in the HOF. It was masterful the way he stalked 2nd To Nunn down late in that fight.

I just popped in Bowe vs Holyfielf, got some popcorn sitting in my recliner. I'm actually nervous like this is a live fight lol These guys coulda fought in any era. Bowe like Toney it just goes to show talent goes out the window without work ethic and discipline.

This is why I always respect L L he was a true professor. Bowe was such a under achiever. I think his career was done at like 29 I mean he fought meaningless fights after that but good talent and not enough discipline.

Btw don't know what it was, maybe the Olympic days where he lost to Lennox, but I saw a whole new Riddick (for the worse) when Lennox started to make his way over the atlantic. When Lennox wasn't making much noise, Riddick was the man. But somewhere along the way Lennox put the fear of God in him in that famous, face-to-face confrontation they had after a Bowe fight. And if Team Bowe could have kept him away from Brooklyn's numerous Krispy Kreme's, then he may have reached HOF status.

He only lost one and that was questionable in the Fan Man fight. But I have held a grudge for a long time that Bowe didn't step up to the plate and fight Lennox. However, that con artist of a manager that Bowe had played a large part in not putting Bowe up against his Olympic Rival.

I've got Toney higher than Floyd on my alltime list. Toney at 75 and Floyd at 82.
