Can't argue there, and the Tockster was a beast in his prime, dare I say Tysonesque. I still can't believe how easily Joe handled him........one of his best performances, against the best that the North Dakota Nightclub boxing circuit has to offer.
Check through my post history I'm clearly not Mick :-( With regards to him going backwards - there have been some tough economical times over the past year or so, which has affected TV stations, boxing and virtually everything else in the world. ITV stopped the contract with Mick despite him doing a good job IMO (far better than Mr Warren did) due to the dire financial situation ITV pulled out of boxing because they're skint, BBC definately aren't interested in boxing, sky are full to the rafters with boxing (Hatton, FW, BH...) and the other multitude of channels (ESPN,Bravo, CH4, CH5 etc) either can't afford it or have no interest in it...... yet despite all this Mick gets the fight shown live on TV and surprise surprise the Eastside forum is up in arms about it ('Moon on a stick' my friend 'Moon on a stick')
Carl doesn't crave the limelight and the celebrity life style, he's happy as long as he's respected within the game. Mick has consistantly delivered the BIG fights for Carl, Frank would have cash-cowed him to death against below standard opposition then he's have delivered him a BIG fight when he was leaving his prime. Which scenario is better for the boxing fan?
Ah the old "recession" stuff, yet David Haye has become a superstar in this country during that same "recession". And remember, this is the same sky tv that barely acknowledged Haye existed at one point, now he's a sky star. Maybe David Hayes team just arent as completely inept as Mick is? The Taylor fight not even live on any tv channel, PPV or otherwise. The Dirrell fight was even more laughable in a way, on PPV yet Virgin Media viewers cant ****ing buy it!! How stupid is that? You put something on PPV then certain people arent allowed to actually buy it! And here we are once again, the same shitty channel. If you think thats all good and Mick is doing a brilliant job then fair enough, I disagree and its pointless continuing it as our views are so far apart.
I doubt it too.... it's a shame though, imagine what your promoter would have done with him by now if he got him when he became world champion? He'd be a household name by now surely?
The Haye comparison is a good one. Valuev was limited but the fight was marketed brilliantly. Taylor was a better opponent for Froch than Valuev was for Haye. They could have sold that fight as being "The man that beat BHop" v Froch. I cant see how it would have been that difficult to build that fight up and get the market interested. Even is Joe Public dont know who BHop is, tell them he was a great middleweight that was dethroned by Taylor. And now Froch's fighting this dude. Worse still, how can anyone not sell the super six? My dad was into his boxing back in the day but lost touch when it all went over to sky. He'd still watch the big fights but he couldnt tell you who any given champion was at any time. Yet, when I told him about the super six (literally, a five minute conversation consisting of "yeah it's basically six of the best supermiddleweights in the world fighting each other, set up a bit like the champions league") he was all over it. "When does it start? Who's in it? So who's the best then? What channel is it on? I'll watch that". If my arl fella can get into after me giving him one line, the public would lap it up after a marketing campaign!
It's pointless because you refuse to say what Mick should have done, you just keep repeating the same 'Mick is ****' mantra. Haye's done very well for himself, he's a one-man PR machine and the way he promoted his HW World title fight with the Giant was a thing of beauty, but what's happened to Hayemaker promotions in this (in your eyes fabled) 'Recession' and since he lost the Setanta contract? Haye (himself) is one of the few people who have prospered in this recession, but that doesn't make everybody who hasn't matched his recent achievements as inept. Primetime brought their launch date forward, so they could show Froch-Dirrell which explains the technical problems they had. If they hadn't have brought it forward the show could have gone un-aired I've repestedly asked this question throughout the thread, but you seem unable to muster up a valid response, what were Micks other options to Primetime? I think he's done well to get the fight live on TV considering TV's apathy to the sport
Fat Mick tries to blame everything (the recession) and everyone ( ITV, BBC, Sky) for not getting Froch on live TV that doesn't pause every 30 seconds, but the truth is he is **** at his job. If Froch was with Warren, Maloney, Hearn, Hatton or Hayemaker he would be on live TV if not PPV. Froch is obviously very loyal and maybe he doesn't crave fame and wealth but it doesn't excuse fatboy for being unable to deliver the goods.
Exactly, they could have done a good job with it easily, the man who beat Hopkins, you know Froch would have been on SSN everyday saying Calzaghe ducked Taylor which gets more interest etc etc. It'd have done ok I think, but we didnt even end up with it on tv. It wouldnt surprise me if you asked 200 people in a random town who theyve heard of, Carl Froch or Mikkel Kessler the majority would answer Kessler. Hardly anyone is bothered about him, its pretty sad really.
Christ you lot are hard work! :yep it's because there are very few TV stations who are interested in shwing any type of boxing at all. Sky or Primetime look to be the only 2 realistic options and Mick must be confident he can get more money from the Primetime route than the Sky route
I've credited Hennessey loads of times for the recent fights he's got Froch, you just choose to ignore those bits though. Primetime are still having the same problems regarding virgin viewers so that excuse doesnt wash, nice try though. Sky, as others have said 10s of times. Are you honestly telling me sky wouldnt have been interested in Taylor or Dirrell fights? He was also negotating with ITV for the Taylor fight. Offers were there so dont pretend they werent.
