According to the Associated Press, the Yankees "reached an accommodation" with the family who planned to have a bar mitzvah the day Top Rank planned to have Foreman-Cotto. Though the fight isn't signed just yet, the fact that the Yankees were willing to make adjustments to their plans tells me it's a good chance this comes off.

So it looks like there will be not one but two Boxing matches happening this year in major stadiums that aren't in Europe. Who would have thought?

    ____________

    Update :

ESPN is reporting the deal has been finalized for Yankee Stadium. The stadium will be scaled for 30-35k. Ringside tickets will be $400 with the cheapest seats being $50. Top Rank is currently in talks with HBO about airing the bout. If a deal isn't reached, the fight will go to PPV.

They should call the event "Box Mitzvah."

Still think this is a step backwards for Cotto. I thought foreman looked like **** against that last guy he fought, and remember one of the commentators hearing that the dude he was fighting took some time off "work" to be able to train. But I'll still be watching regardless.

Arum should put JuanMa on the card if he expects to maximize that stadium.

I think Cotto will be enough to bring in the Ricans. John Duddy probably would have been better suited for this card since he's a pretty decent draw in NYC.

Apparently, the stadium will be configured to hold 30,000.

I wonder does the possibility of the fight happening in Yankee stadium increase the likelihood of HBO picking the card up.

If the aim is only 30k then I think Arum is not making the most of the opportunity. Although I must admit that I don't know what that seating capacity is for that stadium, I assume the park can hold significantly more people. And considering that the fight will take place around PR Day parade, I also assume that there will be an available market to accommodate a much higher turnout than 30k.

Arum is doing a good job of putting otherwise bland matchups like Pac-Clottey and this fight in the finest sports venues in America. Surely will increase the buyrate. Too bad the fights aren't special.

Cotto's an average sized Welter (Height). I don't think 154 suits him at all. This could be a real bad move.
