Why do people consider Randy Couture great?

Good question. Maybe its him beating Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, Vitor Belfort 2x, Kevin Randleman, Tim Sylvia, Maurice Smith, Mark Coleman all of which are former UFC Champions giving him 8 wins over former Champions which ties him with Liddell for the most that im aware of. Randy being a 5 time UFC Champion kinda helps a bit to but maybe its just me. In addition to the Champs hes beat you got wins over TK, Jeremy Horn, Gabriel Gonzaga, Brandon Vera and 2 wins over Pedro Rizzo thats not shabby. Most of his wins are vs larger men like Sylvia, Gonzaga, Rizzo etc so thats gotta stand for something and all of these accomplishments came in his mid 30s to mid 40s. For everyone its well his record is only 18-10 well yeah thats not great when you fight scrubs. Everyone Randy Couture lost to is a legit and 3 of those losses have controversy like the Illoukine fight where the moved them from the corner to the center of the ring when Illoukine was attempting a Kimura and a split secound before they restart the guy is already cranking the Kimura, Josh Barnett tested postive for steroids after beating Couture and Vitor's win came 30 secounds in by a cut from a grazzing punch and Randy did more then enough to say he avenged that. Most of Randy's resume is agianst the highest levels of MMA and hes 18-10 so he wins about 70 percent of the time vs a high level so 2 out of 3 isnt shabby at all.

 

Yeah because he hasnt beat enough great fighters and Champions to be awarded in the great catergory :roll: You sure as hell are past the "good" or pretty good fighter stage when you have a resume like that. Randy losing fights usually to bigger guys just means hes beatable usually he would learns from his losses give him credit for like unlike where today our society just makes the same mistakes over and over agian. People love to see Chris Leben fight but that doesnt make him very good so dont use that likeability BS.

 

Yes he lost a lot, and for that reason he probably can't be considered amongst the elite, but not many guys in MMA can be considered amongst the very very best when the sport is so young. When you're fighting the competition he has unless your name is Fedor you'll lose some. He has beaten some of the best fighters in the world and has helped the UFC become what it is today, very few fighters will have a career like his.

Let's see the guy has won the UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight championships. How many other fighters can make the same claim?

 

Silly question. Just look at his record and it says what you need to know. Randy in reality is a light heavyweight. At heavyweight he was giving up HUGE size disadvantages but clearly likes the challenge.

 

He is extremely overrated.
