but....

there are some one trick ponies out there who's one trick is worthy of mention. mccall's chin, shavers' power, etc. (i use the term one trick pony loosely here. those two did have more than just that but are remembered primarily for that)

 

how can you guys pick the chin of marciano or holyfield over ali's chin ? i think ali has proven to have the best hw chin in history

I think it is well-known that Patterson had extremely quick hands.

And looking at that video you can tell, especially with the force he's hitting with.

I think Fitz is a pretty controversial pick for the best Heavyweight puncher.

What do you think Moore could be put under?

 

I think in a P4P circumstance, they are both great picks in the power department. Especially if you give them a 6'5-6'7½ 240lb frame. I would also considering putting Fitzsimmons in for timing. Laser-like precision in his punches.

 

Looking at your avatar and your pick for speed makes me think about an argument I once had with a friend about who was the faster HW. I said it was Patterson, he said it was Tyson and acted like I was batcrap crazy for saying Patterson. Even told me it was "the film that made him look faster"

I said "nah, his speed made him look faster."

 

God damn...Floyd was great wasn't he. I must check him out more. Very impressed, and I think the video shows hes in the running. Great double left hook.

In the 1st bout with Jerry Quarry, Floyd decked Jerry in the 7th with what was described by a boxing writer as an almost "invisible" right hand hand..it was so fast. Just one example of many of Patterson's incredible hand speed..yes he was at least as fast handed as Ali.
