There's some tough women that take class at my gym as well, and they'd **** up most any new guy that comes in. Everyone trains together. What kind of gym do you train at? My place is called Team USA Muay Thai. Main MT fighters, but we off BJJ classes as well, and we've started developing an MMA team.
Walker is in Strikeforce and NO ONE in the sport considers him anything more than a media attraction Lesnar has in 4 fights beaten the UFC HW champion, the former champion, and one the sports most respected journeyman. Lesnar is the real deal.
Shes a nice and attractive girl so ill admitt I dont mind rolling with her :yep I tend to go light on her because of our experience and skill different but shes tough she moves them hips well and throws up decent Triangles.
Same with my gym everyone works together and I love it everytime I open that door I feel like im at a family get together which just happens to result in freindly punching, kicking and submission attempts :yep My Gym I guess is considered to be mostly a BJJ school being a Renzo Gracie affilate but its really just a combat sports gym overall. We have a good pro boxer who trains there, several amateur boxers, lots of guys competing in BJJ tournaments, Muay Thai fights and of course MMA pro and amateurs our gym owner and Renzo Blackbelt promotes fights at the 1st Mariner arena in Baltimore.
aside from Herschel, what does it say about your sport when a former pro and amateur wrestler can come in and whoop everyone's ass right away?
Wasnt right away when Brock won the Heavyweight title hed been doing MMA training nearly 3 years. Throw in his Championship Amateur Wrestling background its alot longer then a few years. Brock came into MMA with possibly the most important part already down at a high level hes an elite wrestler with that brings great work ethic, body control, strength and cardio. All Brock really needed at that point was basic Submission defense, GNP and good enough striking skills when you consider he outweighs all his opponets by a large number.
What did it say about boxing when a 20 year old Tyson was HW champion? Or when 17 year old Benitez was 140 pound champion? Or that George Foreman trained for a year and won an Olympic gold medal. Or that a 40 year old Foreman won the HW title, and looked like an overweigh grandpa doing it? Beibut Shumenov challenged for a world title in less than 15 fights, what does that say about boxing? MMA is a young sport and Lesnar will be remembered years from now as an exceptional talent. Lesnar had an outstanding collegiate wrestling career and was the NCAA HW Champion in 2000. He's a physical powerhouse and as Jimmie pointed out, he was hugely prepared for the sport.
Sorry MexicanJew, you're a good lad, but MMA is not aesthetically pleasing unless they are standing up...which is essentially a boxing match with a few kicks thrown in. Just saying my piece bro, don't shoot me down.
I'll readily admit its not always exciting to watch and can be boring as hell. But I love the sport, and its evolved a great deal in the last few years. The fighters are all much more rounded and the overall skill level is much higher. I regard in the same sense of boxing at the beginning of the 20th century, back when fights would go 20 rounds and the fighters threw one punch at a time. Then Jack Johnson came and revolutionized the sport, then Jack Dempsey. In 20 years the fighters of the early era will look completely primitive. The fighters today like Silva are going to be the new prototypes of era. Right now the majority of MMA fighters are not Elite level athletes. You have guys like Silva and GSP that are though, and with their intelligence and dedication they dominate. You have a physical powerhouse like Lesnar that is representing a new type of MMA HW. You see this kid Velasquez that can fight every second of every round and is developing an all around game.
Newton vs Sakuraba was an amazing ground war. I love MMA, and while boxing will always be my first love, I will watch low budget MMA before I watch a lot of mid level boxing matches now adays. I find every aspect of the sport fascinating.
I looked at it from a sports evolution. You're gonna have a million dudes beating themselves up with just 1 haymaker or 1 open jab as is the case with 4 oz gloves. I respect MMA fighters for their chins and dedication, but not much anything else. And I can't wait till they use melee weapons and tag team or group fights in the future when it evolves.
