I agree with you, 99% of my cousins don't like futbol. My parents strongly encouraged us to learn as much about our culture as possible--whereas most of my cousins Spanish is barely acceptable. I have been following EL Tri since about 92 and born into Chivas. In particular in Guadalajara and Los Altos where I spent my summers I understood that soccer was King. However, boxing is more popular in Mexico than in the US.

Mexico has at least two major boxing events televised every weekend. These events lost some luster when PPV denied the public access to their Champs. The people could not afford to watch their champions fight. However, this is changing as the fights are aired a few hours later.

Saul Canelo Alvarez marked the return of boxing as he is considered a major celebrity throughout the entire Republic. Recently a national tournament of rising stars was held sponsored Tecate and by the WBC and some new stars were found.

I personally mean no disrespect to my fellow Chicano's but boxing in Mexico is going great. Plenty of fans exist but I will admit boxing is regional and very big in Tijuana and Mexico City.

Prospects are coming: Carlos Cuadras, Alonso Lopez, Omar Chavez (better than his brother), Tyson Marquez, Roberto Garcia, and James De La Rosa. In particular Los Mochis is producing plenty of prospects.

To date no reply from Trasero ...asked him a few weeks ago

*******s don't like facts as they are biased against them.

He can't face the truth that his Golden Age is more like Wet Dream

I don't see the relation between speaking spanish and liking soccer. It does however make sense that those Mex-am that have been greatly influenced by American culture are less likely to follow soccer. I don't think knowing spanish will increase your interest in soccer though.

Yes, I agree that Mexico still produces more elite level boxers than many other countries but if you look at the percentages, other countries produce more elite boxers per capita.

i agree with this. buy i'm pretty optimistic about donaire, he "might" get to that level if he stops fighting low-level oppositions. montiel would be a nice start IMO.
