Are Timothy Bradley and Chad Dawson good enough to carry boxing?

    I'm not so sure...:bart
After Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Mosley and Hopkins retire, who will inherit the throne as ambassador of the sport? Are there any other dominant, gifted young fighters out there who are capable of bringing fans back to boxing and keeping them with us for years to come? :think

They're good, there's no doubt about that, I just don't think their crowd pleasing enough to carry the sport...mainly Dawson.

no. these two guys are great fighters, but only real boxing fans appreciate their skills. the guys that are going to keep boxing going are guys like valero, gamboa, juanma, rigondeaux, to name a few. guys who just want to fight and can wow you with their technical skills as well as their power and ability to KO fighters in spectacular fashion. you need those guys to get the general sports fan interested.

Bradley has a much better shot at that than Dawson...... if he keeps winning and does so at a few weights. But, you never know who may emerge in the coming years. We fight fans are so starved for the sport that we'd jump on any hot commodity. I think if a guy comes along with the right combination skills, personality and balls, he'd be a mega star in boxing.

Yeah I'd pay to see Rigondeaux fight.

two things you need to carry boxing are two things both guys are missing:

    1. a good story
    2. charisma

Not Dawson. If he could talk a good one he'd have a chance but he sounds sooooo timid. Bradley has a much better chance to end up like a Mosely type. Humble entertaining(minus the KO's) and willing to fight all comers. I'd like Andre Wards chances better than Dawsons as long as he gets a bit more entertaining and stops holding and headbutting.

Victor Ortiz has a good story and an explosive style but I'm not sure about the charisma.

Not to mention he has PLENTY of fights in his division to build up his resume. If he can pass those tests then Pav will be coming up soon and Dawson and Pascal are waiting for him at LH. He's already got a belt! He can become the man!

Very true, but from the fight he quit a while back, might be his lack of heart. Need that as well. Luckily Dawson and Bradley both have heart.

I agree with the other posters on this thread they have the ability but lack the excitement factor needed to carry the sport

Someone like Arthur Abraham has big crossover appeal. If he wins the Super Six then he'll be massive in the US. People love a KO artist.

Yea I reckon the super 6 winner will perhaps be the next main ambassador of the sport, seeing as there talk of Pacquiao/Mosley retiring on the horizon, and we don't know what May has planned.

I do also think that we can expect to see more tournament layouts such as the super 6. Once we're reached the final and see the amount of money it's made, more promoters will be inclined to agree to a tournament layout. Not only does this guarantee the viewer better fights, but it also avoids all this political pre-fight bollox we see so often nowadays.

And while there at it, they should unify all governing body's into 1!! :yep
