Bowe v witherspoon, lewis, tyson and bonecrusher that bruno fought?

I think it hurts Bowe's legacy very badly that he never fought Lewis, but I attribute that fight never materialzing to other things than just Bowe's reluctance. I don't think its fair nor fitting to refer to a man who fought in some 45 professional fights and was a world champion a coward.

–noun 1. a person who lacks courage in facing danger, difficulty, opposition, pain, etc.; a timid or easily intimidated person.

With regards to Lewis he fits the description perfectly, he wanted no piece of Lewis.

All this match-making nonsence. Any fighter can tell their management 'No, I won't fight that guy, I want this guy, hell I'm not fighting till you get me this guy!!' Did Bowe? No, yet financially it made perfect sence.

Remember, the fight was as good to go, till Bowe binned the belt.
It doesn't get more cowardly than that.

It can be spun to make sense any number of ways, but where was Bowe's pride? He had his ass kicked by Lenny in front of the whole world. Suddenly, after a face to face confrontation, an episode where Bowe verbally committed to giving Lennox his shot AND kicking his ass, he backs out, going so far as to dump a belt.

Maybe Bowe thought things out and thought better of it, and maybe he didn't. Either way, he neglected to take care of business, reverse an embarrassing loss.....and here we are.

Its not in defense of Bowe, its just that nothing suggests he was scared, especially the way he fought, the way their olympic match ended and the fact that Bowes manager was greedy.

 

And here's the thing....Lennox sold the IBF belt in 2002 rather than face Chris Byrd.....despite the world thinking he'd whip Byrd.

But Lewis' career didn't end. He went on to whip McCall, Morrison, Tua, Holy, Tyson, Golota et al.

We can cry for Bowe all we want. Results matter.

If anything, I've been a tad biased in Riddick's favor.

 

Yes, climbing back into the ring with Golota counts for much. If only he had done that with Lewis......we'd all be better off when debating who was better between them.

Hardly an ass kicking. Bowe felt Lewis was helped by the ref, and if you watch the fight, the stoppage is a bit premature, not to mention Bowe won the first round pretty clearly. It was a two round fight in the amatuers for crying out loud, its been ridiculously used as reason why Bowe ducked Lewis. Gonzalez beat him far worse in the olympics, he should have been scared of him too right? Watch the fight and tell me what you think

No necessarily you, but there seems to be a lot of dislike for Bowe on this forum.

 

Fine, I won't argue with you.. If you think that every major boxing match that never came off, was exclusively attributed to one man lacking the balls to face the other, then sobeit.

 

Any hate towards Bowe is probably due to a few reasons. Firstly some will feel cheated they never saw him fight Lewis which would have been a great fight and blame Bowe and his management for that. But the main reason I think will be because of the team of people he surrounded himself with and their poor conduct. We saw examples of that during the fan man incident, the Tillery fight and the first Golota fight.

Lennox Lewis 'gives up IBF belt'
Lennox Lewis has given up his International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight title, according to a report.
It is claimed the British fighter does not want to fight Chris Byrd, who is the IBF's mandatory challenger.
News agency Associated Press claimed on Thursday that Lewis had issued a statement detailing why he felt Byrd offered him no challenge, although there was nothing about the move on the fighter's own official website.
If true it would leave Lewis-who once held all the versions of the heavyweight crown-with just the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt.
Giving up just one of his belts would also appear to prove for certain that the 37-year-old Briton plans to carry on fighting-something to which he hinted last week.
Associated Press quoted Lewis as saying: "Today, I announced my decision to vacate my IBF heavyweight title.
"Prior to today, my team and I had already determined that there was no public interest in a Lennox Lewis/Chris Byrd bout.
"My decision was also based upon the fact that I believe, as I have said repeatedly, that Chris Byrd offers no competitive challenge to me.
"Moreover, if I were to fight Chris Byrd, my likely next IBF mandatory defense would be against an opponent (David Tua, Evander Holyfield or Hasim Rahman) that I have already beaten.
"The fact is that the champion makes the belt important, not the other way round.
"Accordingly, in light of a court order and an IBF ruling that would have required me to fight a meaningless fight against Chris Byrd in order to keep the IBF belt, I had no choice but to vacate.
"As I have recently stated, the world has yet to see the best of Lennox Lewis."
Lewis' next opponent for the WBC belt is likely to be 26-year-old Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko, holder of the lightly-regarded World Boxing Organisation (WBO) crown. Byrd would then face former world heavyweight champion Holyfield for the vacant IBF title.
