there was that good heavyweight fight they had, i just remembered between chris byrd and ike ibubeachi that was 1 good fight ..that i hadn't seen b4. what about johnny lewis.I swear his knowledge of the sport is very minimal.. he's just a motivational fitness trainer as far as I'm concerned. I don't mind seeing old fights, as long as they don't go the full 12 rounds but end in ko midway through.
Only watched the Kostya-Lopez one so far...surely they can do better then Hops-Baptist. That wont keep the casual fan tuned in..they need some staple modern day classics like Gatti-Ward, Morales-Barerra, Ayala-Tapia, Ward-Augustus, Corrales-Castillo, Vargas-Tito etc etc...Fights that are easy to digest. Or at least show some old Fenech, Micheal, Ellis, Taylor fights to use the whole aussie angle.
Agreed! :good I've watched all three episodes thus far and last night, I turned it off bored shitless! All points mentioned above, about easy to digest for the casual fan, or at the very least, Aussie classics would make for better entertaining and the potential longevity of the show. Great to have on every Tuesday, but level wise, it must come up a few notches yet.
Spot on Rock! Barry Michael vs. Lester Ellis is as good a fight as you'll see anywhere. Casual fans would be bored shitless with B-Hop. Purists appreciate him, but not casual's and especially when your trying to make a boxing show build an audience. Fenech fights would be brillant for the Aussie flavour, plus his blinding work-rate.
I wonder who chooses which fights to broadcast. Surely they must have some clue as to what fights would be interesting to the general public. Based on what they have shown, they seem to struggle in this area. You would think as the show is Johnny Lewis boxing classics, Johnny Lewis would know what sort of fights to pick if he is picking them (which I doubt).
Yeh in Johnny's defence, I seriously doubt also as to the selection/influence he has on the fights. To be frank, I reckon it just comes down to pure dollars and cents and the standard of fights they have been showing, they would be buying them for a pittance as some if you notice were only 'Tuesday Night Fights' in the States! The rights to purchase those would be next to nil, hence the show not having to recover a lot of production costs through the ad's sold. It's a shame, as much boxing as possible is a great thing. If the purists get bored with it, no casual viewer's going to get excited for a month of Sunday's!
it would be nice if the people who owned the rights to these fights looked at the bigger picture and realised by making them more accessible they would create more fans in turn creating a bigger pie for them all to eat. there better of not showing shows like this they probably do more damage than good
Reckon you've nailed it Contendo. ...it's a real pity that when they do get the odd boxing show up and running they botch it! ...just makes it harder the next time & the time after that - starting further & further behind the 8 ball!
