In a recent interview, Toney stated that his promoter Dan Goossen has been in negotiations with WBC champion Vitali Klitschko for the last 3 weeks. Vitali agreed to fight Toney in May, shall the Valuev fight not happen. However, the Vitali camp has backed out of their promise and would now all of the sudden rather go forward with a Povetkin fight.

Knowing Toney, there is no doubt at all he really wants to fight Vitali fight. He has always wanted to fight the best. I don't understand why Vitali favours a fight against a guy with just 16 pro fights, especially as this guy should face Wlad and not Vitali. Well, fk it Toney deserves that last shot, they are both around 40, they should get it on and fight.

To be fair to Klitschko, Povetkin will sell better (certainly in Europe, maybe even in the US market at this point...).

To be fair to Toney, recent accomplishments notwithstanding - he deserves the shot a bit more (strictly in a broad, career-spanning dues-paid sense).

Vitali Povetkin to me is a better fight the foremost contender and gold medalist is undefeated though been inactive. Toney has done nothing for the division in years. He deserves nothing. He got his chances and blew them. Povetkin is a young hungry contender. Two guys who throw high volumes of punches and have great stamina. If Povetkin has a chin this could be a great fight.

Toney has had several shots and failed. he lost to Peter TWICE in WBC eliminators, had a Draw with Rahman. Used steroids to beat Ruiz. Toney has had more chances than just about any other Heavyweight contender.

Povetkin has done much more and deserves the fight way before James Toney. :deal

James Toney is delusional. He says he planned to fight Vitali in May and then go do an MMA fight in June. Why in the world would Vitali waste his time with Toney?

Nonsense. ever heard of Johnny Ruiz, how many cances does this guy get?Why did Rahman get a shot against Wlad after losing to James and how many opportunities did Rahman got?Based on what did Holy fought Ibrahimgov or Valuev?Monte Barett got alot of opportunities...you see, it is an endless list.

Keep in mind that Toney only fought twice for the heavyweight championship WITHOUT losing. James Toney is also an ATG.

And ain't it no waste of time to fight Kevin Johnson or a guy with 16 pro fights?I am telling you, Vitali will knock that Russian out inside 6 rounds. At least, James has a chin and decent defense.

You discredit Toney's victory of Ruiz on this thread but on other threads call Ruiz a joke because he lost to two middleweights. :patsch

Povetkin is a far better opponent. Toney is just talk and got enough chances to make the fight before and blew it away by demanding more money when he didn't deserve any of it and has done nothing to deserve it other than talk and make a few journalists laugh.

Rahman was a last minute replacement. And I said Toney has had just as many chances as anyone which he has and he has BLOWN every single one of them.

If Vitali was fighting a nobody then Toney could ***** about it, but as it stands toney is old news and there are better fights out there for vitali. As long as he is taking those top guys then I have no complaints.

Toney - wlad should have been made years ago, now its a bit too little too late
