i'll answer you guys after work individually. For now yes it is abit modern, yes my criteria is specific, and those points are both linked.

and based on the following yes, Ali is right up there in my mind

    - 40% ability/skill
    - 20% Physical attributes/toughness
    - 20% Wins/competative losses over elite competition
    - 10% adaptability/stylistic range

well that much is obvious but most of us make top 10 lists without him because he's so far ahead of everyone else, it's obvious that we're just trying to figure out who is at a distance second

Yes, because a man who did zero weight jumping should be number TWO on a list where 10% regards success at multiple weights.

And dominance? Where was the dominance in the series with Frazier? Norton, where he's a debatable 3-0?

Thats 20%, where as other fighters on that list were FAR more dominant then Ali.

But, of course, Ali fans can and will justify any means to jerk off the man, so have at it.

Hero worships fine at all, but the man isn't the P4P number two of all time and you and the OP with his ultra specific criteria are more then likely the only two on this forum who believe so.

whoa whoa, slow down killer, i was only half serious. i was pretty sure my point that he could go down to middle and work his way up would be seen as ridiculous :!: based on the criteria, ali is obviously penalized for weight jumping but dominance? being the best heavyweight of 2 decades and reigning supreme for essentially 10 years is pretty dominant. from 1963-1967 he was obviously the best, then from 1970-1974 he was a solid contender, then from 1974 to 1978 he beat everybody he faced. you can make an argument for norton being 3-0 against him but it ain't too solid. norton lost that 2nd fight, the 3rd was debatable. other than that ali was on top during the greatest ever in heavyweight history and beat at least 3 potential top 10 all time heavies during that time as well as HOFs like patterson. that's pretty ****ing dominant you ask me. were sanchez, hagler and whitaker really that much more dominant?

Ali himself said immediately after the third Norton fight that felt he lost it. So no disputing that.

Undefeated from 74-78 huh. I see we're wearing biased ref goggles here.

not saying undefeated but name me one person that he fought that he didn't beat? he avenged the spinks loss. then he retired.

the 3rd norton fight, officially is a win, but like many offical wins it doesn't really count for much. i'll certainly say it shouldn't count as a plus towards ali's resume. it was close and watching it, you can certainly see norton taking it

Oh well, you know. Outside of the much debated "wins" Shavers, Young, Norton III... I guess he really was undefeated in that period!

But hey, Chavez was "unofficially" unbeaten post Whitaker so I guess we know how much that matters.

you have a point about his post frazier 3 career and his star status getting him the benefit of the doubt. but was he not the greatest heavyweight in the greatest era of heavyweights? look at the list of fighters he beat during that time. it's pretty damn impressive and his longetivity is quite telling. from 1963-1975 he posted wins over some of the best the division has ever seen; his placement P4P is up for debate but he was certainly the king during that time period

    g

The fact that you go on about Ali with the list when it's onl of the few right or excusable things on the list is utterly pathetic. You act as if this is the only thing wrong with the list... or the only inconsistent. Ali is a top 10 P4P fighter by most posters accounts, so who cares?

speaking of which: what do you think of the rest of the list pete? unusual sure but with that criteria some of the choices are reasonable (though it reads less like a p4p list and more of a list based only on narrow set of standards)

Wrong. Absolutely, ignorantly, definitely wrong.

He's not in any sane posters top tens. He does not belong with the Ezzard Charles, Henry Armstrong, Harry Grebs and Sugar Ray Robinsons of the world.

Anyone else want to speak up on Ali being in a top ten P4P ATG list?

i'm gonna be honest dude, i respect your opinion but pete and i are certainly not the only ones who put him in the top 10. to not even entertain the possibility of him being in the top 10 is hatred. ali has earned a spot
