Quite a few others have moved through multiple weights, have more high quality wins against ATG's, been more consistent, had fewer abysmal sleep inducing performances... Therefore they've earned for more of a "spot" then Ali. To be blunt, you are absolutely ****ing crazy if you think Ali accomplished more then Greb, Charles, Robinson, Armstrong, Benny Leonard, Fitz, Mickey Walker. Feel free to make an actual case for Ali against the above fighters instead of the trite and cliched "you're a hater" BS. Awaiting the several other posters who are going to rip apart the notion of Ali being a top ten P4P fighter. 1st or 2nd best heavy of all time? Yes, no doubt. P4P Top Ten?
Okay buddy. Open your eyes a bit more. Why don't you visit The Gods of War thread. As for someone, I know Sweat Pea does (Who's certainly saner than you).
well i respect your opinion and you've made some great posts so you don't deserve the dreaded "hater" tag i don't think there's anyway we'll agree on ali's placement and there's nothing wrong with that: these lists are made to be argued. i have ali above fitz, walker and leonard. the rest i have to think about as i'm constantly re-evaluating my list but personally, looking at the ali of the williams and folley fights i cannot think of a more destructive and talented fighter. his resume and skills were top notch but i don't fault anyone who makes the argument for fighters above him
these lists are all subjective, everyone has different criteria. i have trouble NOT putting ali into the top 5 but to each their own
Top 5 is a bit strong for me. I think he's a borderline top 10 P4P. Arguing against that seems rather tedious to me.
fair enough. there's certainly a case for top 10 or top 5 but at that point it's not a big deal. have to ask pete (don't have your list handy) where do you have canzoneri of your p4p list? he keeps moving up on mine the more i think about it...
Annnd still waiting. Also, I'm terribly surprised I haven't had an actual response on why Ali belongs higher on a ATG, P4P list then Harry Greb.
The thread starter. Mayweather Jr over the likes of B. Leonard, Pep, Greb, Langford, Charles, Burley, Walker and on and on and on. And that's just the beginning. Outside of Robinson (Top 5 easy) and Ali, Leonard (top 15-ish) no one on that list should be higher than top 30. Mayweather Jr is low end top 100, to have him in a top ten all time P4P list is so ****ing sickening I feel as though steaming my **** would only make me feel better after reading that ****. What's especially sad is that this ****-hat says he's actually going to try to justify this abomination? That should be a laugh. Jesus Christ. Just...Jesus ****ing Christ.
Right, and while all this is happening Russel is arguing over a choice that could be justified in the top 10. While others are certainly far worse. It's beyond me.
Well he doesn't. The list this guy has definitely has its holes. But you picking on Ali being a top 10 listing in and of it self is silly considering the entire list. Best HW Resume. Tons of HOF fighters, more so than any other HW (4-5 fighters are probably top 20 HWs. At least 3 are in the top 10). Incredibly dominant prime. First to be 3 time HW champion. In a time where there were less belts. The only man to KO George Foreman (Regardless of whether or not he got up at 9). Schooled the baddest man on the planet "Sonny Liston." Beat Frazier 2/3 times past his prime. Cleaned up contenders while Frazier wasn't fighting and defending his belt. Probably beat more punchers than any other HW (Lewis rivals him here). Won Olympic Gold Light Heavyweight Medal Was only stopped when well past his prime (On his stool) The case is very strong, especially considering how good he was via 66-67. And what he did during his second part was remarkable.
Ali being rated at No. 2 is unjustifiable, but him being in a top 10 list at all is not. I wouldn't put him there, but outside of Robinson, Ali is the most legit pick on that guys list. Which is saying an awful lot about how shitty this guys list is. People and their stupid ****ing lists, I wish lists didn't even exist. Nothing pisses me off like a bad list.
I have Ali at 9, but out of my top 10 he's probably the fighter I'd make least effort to justify keeping.
Ali gets a bad time sometimes, his resume is outstanding, his performances are outstanding. Other fighters will always have the trump card because they were able to weight jump or take on fighters bigger than them and win. I can't argue with people who have those fighters above Ali. And when it comes to Greb, Charles, they actually just have immaculate resumes regardless of weight jumping, so they're kingsize in this **** and untouchable. But let's have it right, Muhammad Ali is on the level of the best fighters to ever do it.
