as evidenced by their success at higher weights.

Morales- Went directly to 130, cleaned out the weight class, lost a close fight to Barrera, and then beat Pacquaio.

Barrera- Went to 130, beat Morales, and beat solid titleholders (future and current) before losing to Pacquaio again.

JMM- Lost a controversial bout to Pac, went to lightweight and won 3 titles.

Pac- Dominant in title victories from 135-147 since losing to Morales.

This featherweight era was truly special and imo does not get the respect it deserves from a historical perspective.

It's still a bit early for people to look at it in a historical perspective, but you are right in that they were something else.

If he actually took his career seriously and not lost his appetite, then maybe. But he didn't. The dude was gifted with unique qualities, and never fully appreciated them. He left his career unfinished, with so many blank pages left waiting to be filled.

I have great respect for Hamed but his prime never really overlapped with these 4, except perhaps JMM.

I fully agree and I recall al bernstein saying something along the lines that they were this eras fab four.

and re: the last post. who you guys got: JMM v. Hamed. I think Hamed takes the early rounds Marquez starts picking him a part around the fifth round and wins a close/ maybe split decision. God, so many ****ing fights that never get made...

Hamed was supremely gifted physically. Mentally, however, he seemed to up himslef to improve.

Hamed does not deserve to be ranked amongts these guys.

    They truly are something special.

Can anyone think of any other possible fab 4s coming up?

i think they only get labeled so in retrospect.

but i think with valero at lightweight eventually moving up to jr. welterweight...bradley, ortiz, khan, amongst many other prospects..all of them relatively young with different styles and vulnerabilities...should be some great ****ing fights....i wonder who comes out of the jww division in the next year and a half as superstar(s)

We had a great era here, the guys just below were the likes of In Jin Chi, Derrick Gainer, Scott Harrison and Manuel Medina, we didn't get to see them all figt each other but it was asking a lot. We had a good one there.

The last great era for a traditionally "glamor" division. The only thing that detracts from it is that we did'nt get to see morales - marquez get it on.

I think he does. Hamed was a special fighter, but his prime didnt overlap with these fighters for the most part.
