There is an argument for having Toney higher. I think he has a better resume, and had comparable ability during his 160-168 pomp. Though there is a solid counter-argument too, one which would be strengthened if Floyd convincingly beats Mosley.
The only good thing for boxing fans is that the biggest money fights represent the biggest challenges for Floyd, so his career will be sorted out before its all said and done. Personally I dont think Floyd has avoided certain fights for any other reason than money.
Taking your point about cockiness and blackness beibg the most hated of combinations. I'll state my own position first. My all time hero was,and still is Muhammad Ali. So,I think I've covered both bases. And from what I've seen on this site,I have n't spotted anyone else having any problem whatsoever with a fighter's skin tone. Floyd Mayweather has been one of the best fighters of the last ten years. I do n't rate him up there with the greats of his weight classes. I'm talking Duran,Leonard,Robinson,Hearns etcetera, but he's probably just a notch below them, imo. Talking bull**** is prevalent everywhere so I have no real problem with that, ibut tjhat comment he's quoted as making in today's paper is just so over the top,it's unreal.
Floyd just isnt articulate and comes across as being a **** to some because of it. All this 'cherrypicking' is nonesense though, see my prior post, Mayweather has always moved to make the biggest fights. Same as Pacquaio who avoided Joan Guzman amongst plenty of others while going after big money bouts As for lies, The fact you don't have a problem with the inconsistancies from Pacquaios camp gives a strong odur of double standards People dislike Floyd for their own reasons, I do think cocky andblack is a combination many people don't like, some people hate cockyness as a whole ofcourse and like modest types. Another reason people don't like FMJ is his safety first technical style, if Mayweather was like Tyson
The McCallum and Nunn wins are probably better than anything on, then again few fighters in history have wins of that magnitude, Monzon doesnt, Arguello doesnt, Chavez doesnt, hell you could even argue Robinson doesnt even have as win as good as McCallum But in terms of dominance and consistancy Toney obviously loses marks. If he had the work ethic of Mayweather and didnt share an era with Jones Jr he could have been the greatest MW/LHW of all time with the natural ability he possessed
McCallum was past it when he fought Toney.Aged before our eyes after about 8 rounds. That version was certainly not clearly better than Benvenuti or Valdez, just to name two.
Ali was hated in his own era though, MOB owned bad mad Liston was preferable to many of the writers. Paterson said he 'was bringing the title back to America', when facing Ali, Terrell wouldnt call Ali by his chosen name. Mayweather did make a fool of himself drawing comparisons to MLK. In essense what he should have said was 'I'm making a stand here. Boxing demanding proper testing to eliminate drugs cheats is an important ethical issue. All boxers should be protected from drugs cheats, more so in boxing than any sport. I take inspiration from my greatest heros such as MLK and MX who took great ethical stands and while this pales in comparison to them, its an important one none the less. Anyone who isnt cheating should embrace the new testing methods, boxig deserves to be a clean sport, which it isnt, and boxers deserve to be competiting on a level playing field If Mayweather was articulate enough he'd sound in the right far more often, but hes a boxer, not a politician
Toney would never have been the greatest LHW of all-time. Beating an aged but great fighter in McCallum was a good achievement but pales in comparison to Robinson and Monzon.
McCallum has more skill in his little finger than those 2 had i ntheir whole bodies. He had also beaten every man he ever faced, cleaned out the 154lb division and beat most of the top middleweight contenders of the day Benvenuti was past prime having lost twice the year before Monzon beat him. Valdez was a great physical specimen with a good dig but he was clearly limited
Agreed. Toney would whip robot Monzon head to head anyways lol Check Monzon against LiCata. Aweful form in his punches, slow, sloppy, no footwork. Toney would tax that ass and you know diiiiis!
Why are you talking all gangster? We can all see your pic and you look a bigger geek than me and that is saying something. **** off to the general you ill-informed nonce.
