I dont think Calzaghe ducked anyone. Hopkins wasnt interested, Jones wasnt interested either. Ottke wouldnt fight outside of Germany and the Tarver fight was being negoitated but Tarver lost to Hopkins. Taylor also priced himself out by demanding 10m.

Imo calzaghe should have taken on another fight or two, i would have liked to see him fight say dawson. That would have got a lot of people off his back.

Calzaghe was a home bird and im not criticizing him for this, he was not inclined until late in his career to fight away but at the end of the day he probably made most of his money in the states but im sure didnt want to be on the end of one of those dodgy decisions that happen as the home fighter can be nicely protected in the states

Calzaghe didnt achieve anything by beating that version of Jones, but he did get an easy payday which was what that fight was all about

Joe Calzaghe on the Jones fight:

“It was surreal,” he says. “Even though he was cut in the seventh round, I didn't want to knock him out. For me, it was my last ever 12-round fight and, in the last three rounds, I was looking around and saying, Joe, this is it man. Time is up for me'.”

Calzaghe spared Jones as he pitied him for being a Glass Jawed fraud. It was a one-sided embarrassment, and Calzaghe had Glass Hands at that point of his career. :rofl:rofl:lol::lol:

I don't hear anyone saying Calzaghe's win over Jones was meaningful in any way. It's really a lot like the Hopkins-Jones fight if you thin about it. Joe just wanted to get at Roy because he never got the chance before. Same with Hopkins. Nobody's going to call it a great win if Hopkins wins, but he'll feel good about it and make a lot of money, so whatever. Same with Joe.

After being ducked his entire career and passed over for all the big money fights, you'd think the guy could catch a break for cashing in....

I believe he also said almost 4 years earlier that he wouldn't fight Roy Jones because Roy had already been knocked out and was no longer a great fighter.:deal
