I don't quite rank him up there with the greats, no. And the ending to that fight was in absolute poor taste anyhow, whether Duran was dwinning the fight or not, he literally ended with a vicious, intentional nut crushing shot!

Pachilles, by your logic you would not believe rhat Alexander Fleming has saved MILLIONS of lives, since the 1940's, because you never saw him is downwrite silly.I never saw Abraham Lincoln, but I know him by his record and his DEEDS....Keep punching though...

Duran did betray the fighter's oath by quitting. You call him the "Betrayer"- it's pretty clear what you mean.

Reasons aren't excuses, Pachilles. There are several posters who just can't seem to understand the difference.

Jones lost by KO in "humiliating fashion" -three times. You don't seem to penalize him and instead rank him extraordinarily high.

I'm wondering if you would consider yourself to be biased against Duran in much the same way as Duranimal is on the opposite side of the aisle.

My top 20 would look something like this based on all-time recognition in their respective divisions:

1 Sugar Ray Robinson #1 Welterweight; #2 Middleweight
    2 Henry Armstrong #2 Welterweight; #3 Featherweight; #4 Lightweight
3 Harry Greb #1 Middleweight; #7 Light Heavyweight
    4 Muhammad Ali #1 Heavyweight
5 Ezzard Charles #1 Light Heavyweight
    6 Roberto Duran #1 Lightweight
    7 Willie Pep #1 Featherweight
    8 Joe Louis #2 Heavyweight
    9 Benny Leonard #2 Lightweight
10 Archie Moore #2-3 Light Heavyweight
11 Sam Langford #2-4 Light Heavyweight
    12 Carlos Monzon #1-3 Middleweight
13 Sugar Ray Leonard #2-3 Welterweight
    14 Joe Gans #3 Lightweight
    15 Jimmy Wilde #1 Flyweight
    16 Eder Jofre #1 Bantamweight
17 Gene Tunney #3-4 Light Heavyweight
    18 Marvin Hagler #3-4 Middleweight
    19 Rocky Marciano #3-9 Heavyweight
    20 Mickey Walker #5-9 Middleweight; #10 Welterweight

Top 21-30 would include Pacquiao, Whitaker, Johnson, Dempsey, Gavilan, Ross, Ike Williams, Canzoneri, Saddler, and JC Chavez.

Of recent boxers, Roy Jones would be in the top 50; Holyfield, Hopkins, Dela Hoya, Mayweather, Barrera, Morales, Tyson would be in the top 60; Lewis in top 70; Mosley and Trinidad in top 80; Marquez in top 90.

Out of the entire semi-joke story post you picked up on the one word betrayer and assumed it referred to him quitting??:huh It referred to nothing other than him being abit of a rebel and a bad boy, to go along with the cheesy ninja story. Jones did lose, but he's not entitled to any excuses, Duran is entitled to excuses on 16 occasions. You know he's the most popular fighter ever and you know he gets double standards. And they are excuses! They are convenient, over played, blown out of proportion excuses. Two men step into the ring of their own free will, one comes out the winner, the other is the loser, end of.

And no, in the p4p Duran hater list i barely scrape the top 50. I lose points on stating facts and there is little depth in delusional thought. Duranimal is a top 5 lock in the fanboy list. You can ask him yourself on these points...

    - Duran vs Hagler could've gone either way and Duran possibly edged it by a point or two.
    - If Duran was in his prime, he would've KOed Hearns. And would've won a rematch if he had trained for it.
    - Duran beats Robinson at WW
    - Duran wasn't made to quit, he quit himself(as if that would be a positive:huh)
    - Duran is no.1 P4P all time greatest fighter ever

As many people as Liston (and probably Foreman) beat who were close to Louis.

burt you already said that and its a very poor comparison, especially considering what i said.

Based on posts ive read of yours i certainly value your opinion more so than anyone else on here, but that being said, i think you're jumping the gun and havent read my opinions properly.

On my criteria, what i personally can justify to rank a fighter on, i cannot rank Greb. And my criteria, that i have explained several times now and highlighted, is not on the resume or the numbers, it is on who in my opinion are the most impressive fighters, and i need to see them to do that. Maybe Greb was the greatest, maybe his resume is the best and maybe you were around to know this to be true, but i certainly will not go by stories and word of mouth, and say that someone i have never seen before would step into the ring and defeat a great i have seen being great.

I'll say it again more clearly. I can accept that on your criteria, or that on everyone elses criteria he might be the greatest. But i cannot accept for fact that he would step into a ring and be the epitome of boxing, and defeat the greats i have witnessed being great with my own two eyes.

    I think thats fair.

It was a great performance by Duran though. You should check out more Buchanan if you haven't already, you'll really enjoy it, one of the best just to sit and watch. I'll have you a friendly bet you'll rate him better once you do. The ending was in bad taste for sure, but you've got to remember that Buchanan punches after the bell first (i've always thought so), if you're going to fight dirty with a hubgry Roberto Duran then there's a god chance he'll go one further. Duran displays one of the great performances there, it's not really fair to single out what happens in one of the rounds.

Your using an absolute peak Louis then mentioning Foreman as if Ali was at his own peak vs Foreman & as if Ali would be playing rope-a-dope vs a puncher like Joe Louis.... badly underrating the boxing intelligence of Muhammad Ali.

How about I put the absolute peak version of Ali that masterclassed Williams 8 yrs earlier in 1966 vs the joe Louis that got outboxed by Billy Conn for 12 n a half rds ?

NOW that Ive made my point, I`ll make another one.... Ali stylewise has the advantage over Louis because of his footwork, speed, height & reach & the Ali that beat Williams would beat the Louis that beat Schmelling.

    Thats all !

Easy to look great against a man with multiple 357. slugs in him.

Man had to have several feet of intestine removed, give me a ****ing break.
