Are Timothy Bradley and Chad Dawson good enough to carry boxing?

First of all who said all those guys were the ambassadors of boxing, and secondly nobody carries boxing, now one boxer alone is able to carry the sport. You need a few boxers to be able to take the sport internationally. Boxing is a geographical sport, we have a lot of fans of the sports but mostly we have fans of certain boxers. Puertorrican fans will always follow their own just like mexicans, filipinos etc. And european fans will be interested more on their fighters just like in the US they follow their own.

All depends on what their divisions has to offer, if they can't find good enough opponents the media will easily hype then they will be in trouble.

Carry boxing? Nah, I don't think so, neither one has the charisma or the knockout punch. Dawson is simply a boring fighter in a boring and aged division. However, Bradley is a very likeable person and an excellent and pretty exciting boxer still developing skills and probably power, so it might only take HBO executives to realize his potential and invest $ in him, which is the ultimate way to build up a fighter in the US nowadays. And he certainly fights in the right division: there's the much hyped Khan, the very good and still developing Alexander, also Ortiz, these guys could call out then fight each others making big noise for the next 2-3-4 years. Add Maidana, Urango, Cayo, Malignaggi and Alvarado, and you have a packed division even without the big names.

But what would really help Bradley is fighting and beating a big name which I don't see happening due to his little drawing power and waaay too much risk for any "name": Judah, Hatton, Marquez, Pacquiao or even Valero. But being that good is Bradley's vicious circle: unless he beats a name he'll remain a risk and he might have to wait either for HBO to buy him out or Showtime to put a Super Six LWW tournament together, and watching Bradley wasting precious time because he's THAT good breaks my heart.

I became a Bradley fan in his last few fights and I think it's outrageous that the best fighter at 140 is also the most avoided one. That's tells us how healthy boxing really is today.

Do they need too? There are others like Gamboa, Abraham, the upcoming mw prospects like Golovkin, Pirog, Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam, Wlad will go on for a few years, Huck, Frenkel, Haye, Ward, Khan and many more.

There is enough alent out there.

Nope. People like brutal KO's and action fights. Bradley can deliver action, but Dawson can't. Neither of them are going to be knocking people out right and left either.

I agree about Bradley, when he beat Witter he didn't just win his title he gained his place as most avoided fighter at that weight. Too good and not enough drawing power for it to be worth taking the risk.

Boxing is all about the money now and for some it seems to be a good enough reason for not fighting the best.

Not enough charisma to do anything. Bradley could become a minor star, but Dawson will never even be that, even if he ends up being #1 P4P. His style isn't exciting and he has the personality of a brick wall.

You make a good point, might as well just stop watching the sport now

Bradley maybe. Dawson's style ain't changing at this point and it has never drawn much interest. I've never ever rewatched a single Chad Dawson fight and I've never cared for him. Bradley provides some excitement although he has the curse of being just a step above featherfisted. Still I'd watch a Bradley fight over a Dawson fight any day of the week.

If Valero-Bradley happens, it's gonna be amazing and the winner will be catapulted into the elite ranks, just one more big win away from superstardom.

Hopkins never manned up and passed the torch to Dawson, so sadly he is still not as big as he needs to be

I'm a Bradley fan too, mainly because of his heart and work ethic. I don't think he's an elite fighter though, Pac would probably crush him entirely, maybe Zab could get him if he has a good night. He's a good champ, so is Dawson, but neither of them are going to be superstars and no, they can't put boxing on their back and carry it.

He never will be. He's barely good enough to get by an old Glencoffe, and certainly not impressive doing it, plus he's just not exciting. Enjoy the Dawson train while it lasts, it's going to be a short ride lol
