A NIGHTMARE that woke Johnny Lewis has convinced world champion boxer Gairy St Clair to drop a title fight in Melbourne next month. The legendary boxing trainer had never dreamed of something horrible happening to one of his prized boxers.
But earlier this month Lewis was so worried by a dream that he phoned St Clair immediately.
"I had a vision Gairy was fighting in Melbourne and was knocked out and they couldn't bring him around," Lewis said. "It was bloody awful. I've never had anything like that before.
"I remember Sugar Ray Robinson didn't want to fight a bloke because he dreamt he had killed him in the ring.
"A priest talked him around to take the fight and, lo and behold, the guy died in the ring. I didn't want Gairy to take the fight. I had to say something."

St Clair was so grateful that he wasted no time pulling the pin on his March 18 fight with Lance Gostelow.
Sydney-based St Clair, a winner of 42 of his 54 fights, said he had only returned to the ring to help pay private schooling fees for one of his daughters, and would now stay retired.
"Johnny doesn't usually say stuff like that, he's always looking out for my safety so I dropped the fight," St Clair said. "It wouldn't matter if I'm making $10 million or $20 million, Johnny is always looking out for me. He looks out for all his fighters."

Good thing in my opinion. Gairy has been getting bashed in his last few fights and this would have been no different.

I would take the advice of Lewis seriously too..

That dream with sugar ray coming true is really really scary.

Good call. Johnny didn't have to dream or have a premonition Gairy was done, it was clear in real life that his best days were well and truly behind him and he was a done fighter.

Wish st Clair all the best for the future. Good guy.

No offence to Lewis but i'm a bit over all the comments he makes which are replayed through the media all the time.

    Gimme a break.

I've never watched many St Clair fights, but how did gairy slide so quickly from winning a world title in 2006 to getting beaten badly by Asiku in 2009
