What is the most highly skilled boxing match you've ever seen?

I love their series of fights. Excellant clash of styles.

 

,In 1943, MSG I watched a chess game with gloves on.The fight was between a young prime 126 pound Willie Pep, and Allie Stolz,from Newark,N.J....Stolz was a real classy 135 pound,lightweight contender who was touted as a coming champ...Great boxer and sharp puncher Stolz was,but ,Willie was a "will of a wisp",that night and won going away....Pep was something to see and remember....

 

Fantastic choice by Sweet Pea on Jofre-Harada 1. A personal favourite of mine is Tapia-Romero, doesn't quite qualify because Tapia is ultimately a level above his man, but it progresses into a very good fight technically.

This is definitly belonging in here. Superb technical match although one sided both young guys show extreme class.

 

Hey, Harada-Rudkin must be up there.

 

I'm not to keen on it. Theres alot of punches thrown and all that but IMO it is fairly one sided. I like the Rose fight better.

 

The Rose fight is a classic and a better fight. But technically Harada-Rudkin eats it i reckon. Rudkin's outboxing him at times, i thought it was closely contested, albeit Harada clearly earns the decision, the body work going in from both men is nice also.

I associated the thread title with 'technically' good match ups, maybe that's wrong of me.

 

Have only seen the hl's on youtube, felt Harada won it clearly but it was definitely competitive throughout. Rudkin stopped Harada from swarming all over him constantly.

 

Rudkin does well in the boxing, I just feel Harada outworks him. I think Rose vs Rudkin showcases each fighters full technical arsenal

 

Like i say, it's one of the great bantamweight fights. Just a different type of fight to the Harada one. In the Harada one they both fight in their own style, and yes Harada outworks him, but because they're both technically very good, it's a quality technical affair. Maybe we'll have to agree to disagree. Rudkin is forced to come out of his comfort zone against Rose and it just makes for one dramatic and legendary fight.

 

I can't remember when I've enjoyed reading a thread more, or got more out of it. Brilliant suggestions guys, thanks a lot, and keep them coming!

 

I might be biased here but I think me old fella did nullify Harada's swarming style at times with his more classical boxing. I also think that Harada was feeling the effects of the sustained body shots from me dad and was looking to hold using his better experience to rest and fight in spurts. There is a lot of wrestling from Harada in that fight.
Harada was quoted at the end as saying that me dad was the fastest man he'd fought and trying to catch him cleanly was like trying hit a fish in deep water. Must be a Japanes expression, all that sushi.
Definitely a good technical fight by Rudkin.
Watch it again Greg with that in mind. The neutral judge only had 2 points between them at 72-70, that's a lot of drawn rounds, depends how you interpret them. One of the British newspapers, I know British, actually had me dad winning from ringside with his better boxing and punch picking.
