Bill, you have often stated your belief that Chavez should rank above Whitaker, but you have never even tried to provide any reasoning or argument to substantiate this untenable and unjustifiable position. You should call these threads "My Favourite Fighters", because they are not your objective and reasoned opinion on who the best fighters are. They aren't, simple as that. There is no justification whatsoever for having Chavez higher, except that you personally like him more. Whitaker whipped his ass h2h, has a better resume, and won world titles at more weights. End of story.

Man Hearns is getting no love in this thread. I can understand not having him in your top 3 but no one has him in their honorable mentions and you don't even have him in your top 10. You don't think Hearns belongs above Pryor?

You`ve said this to me numerous times & Ive given you the same long story time & again, c`mon man :patsch

    1. I find it extremely hard to split Pea & JCC, my mind often changes but mostly I have Chavez one place higher.

    2. I think Chavez was just a tad better when both were at their peaks at 135, in other words I think the JCC that beat Rosario would edge out the Pea that beat Ramirez/Nelson.

    3. There records (resume`s) are kinda even on quality of opponents beaten.

    4. Pea has the 4 weight thing compared to Chavez 3 but we both know that Chavez beats any other WW the night he lost (in my eyes, **** the judges) to Pea but like Arguello before him, he was old school & went straight for the toughest match in boxing, he wouldnt have it any other way.... Im not sure who the other LMWs were at the time but JC Vasquez was no great fighter & Pernell looked like **** in that fight & he barely edged it on my card but he still won it so you can have that one.

    5. Whitaker lasted at the top til a longer age (just) but stlyewise thats to be expected, he was defence first in every fight, Chavez, like Duran before him was also great defensively but did his work right in the eye of the storm for over 100 fights, it takes its toll & JCC should never have been the p4p king for as long as he was with that style, that shows how special a talent he truly was.
Id rather praise how special the man was to remain at the top using that style than hold it against him because he faded at age 31/32.

    6. Chavez was further past his best both in age & ring years by the time they fought & it was also at a weight better suited to Whitaker despite the catchweight.

    7. Please copy & save this **** for future lists of mine that might have Chavez over Whitaker.

    8. Its always a pleasure, Popkins :good
