1.Read your own post. It is clear that Whitaker has the best of it, but your affections prevent you explicitly acknowledging it.

Clear as day dude. There simply is no way to justify it. It's too clear-cut.

Its far from clear cut, Whitaker only became p4p when Chavez hit the slide :deal

With hindsight, we now know both men were at their peaks at 135 & both were top fighters in the same class at that time, correct ?

It was Chavez, not Whitaker who was regarded as numero uno p4p by the vast majority of fans & experts... that didnt happen by accident, obviously he was seen as the greater fighter p4p when both were as good as they were ever gonna be.

Another thing I forgot to add to my list was....
    9. Whitaker is a strong contender as best ever for one of the 4 weight classes he competed in, thats LW.... Chavez is a strong contender for two of the 4 weight classes he competed in, they are SFW & LWW.... & to think that LW is actually considered JCCs best weight & not SFW or LWW speaks volumes for the man.

Anyway, as Ive said before, it can go either way between these 2 great fighters but you saying its unjustifiable to have JCC over him is :nut

But we`ve done this FAR too many times, I dont expect you to concede defeat & neither will I so it is what it is I suppose :good

That point is worthless though. Whitaker's best occurred at the two deepest and greatest divisions in boxing history, light and welter. You cannot compare lw and ww with ****ing sfw and lww, the two traditionally strongest divisions with two far newer, shallower and weaker classes. C'mon Bill.

You won't concede defeat, I know that, but the difference is that to the neutral I can provide a very strong argument that Whitaker must rank higher. You can provide a very flimsy and tenuous argument that Chavez should rank higher, one that can be easily refuted and which reeks of personal affection.

    That's the bottom line.

Agree with your list and that there is no justifiable way to rank Chavez above Whitaker. I'd have Hagler at no.4 most probably.

  8. Leonard (the man was brilliant)
Hopkins (21 MW defenses plus quality wins into his mid 40's..no brainer)
Mayweather (As much as I hate the ***** his skills can't be questioned)

    With honorable mentions for:
Hearns (Had great fights with Leonard and Hagler, Knocked the **** out of Duran)
Duran (If you beat Leonard at any point before 1990, you were the ****)
Pacquiao (Dominant in every weight class from 122 to 147)
Chavez (Best pressure fighter in the history of the sport IMHO)
Tyson (For the short period that he was good, he was REALLY good.)

I kinda hate making lists like this because I always feel like I left out a bunch of world class fighters.... oh well I gotta stop somewhere or my Honorable mention list would get about 50 fighters long.

Man only 3? That is ****ing tough guys. I will just make a list of the guys I think should be up there and let you guys argue it out, hehe.

    No particular order:

    Larry Holmes
    Roberto Duran
    Marvin Hagler
    Pernell Whitaker
    Ray Leonard
    Thomas Hearns
    Roy Jones Jr.
    Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    Manny Pacquiao
    JCC

These were the names that instantly came to mind.

Both are 2 of my fav fighters, I know you think that I like Chavez much more but that is not true... in fact I would say that I watch fights of Whitaker & Chavez more than any other fighter regularly in the past year or so at least (I include Morales & Ali in that) & it depends what mood Im in when Im deciding on who to watch.... I see both guys as among the best ever in their own style, in fact just plain outright, both make my top 10 (but you know my personal criteria so let this one slide :D)

I think me saying its razor thin between the 2 best fighters since Leonard (IMO) is more acceptable than you saying one is so far superior to the other that its unjustifiable for me to put one narrowly over the other.

Chavez in his entire prime was only run close or beaten twice, Taylor & Whitaker, he won one of those & lost one & never looked the same after, he took his first loss about 2/3 fights later vs Randall.
Thats 87 fights thru 3 (4 if you count the Pea fight) weight classes utterly dominating about 95% of competition while being classed as the no1 p4p.

Popkins, I have never & will never argue with anyone having Pea over Chavez... but to say there is no way whatsoever to have it vice versa is what I cant understand.

    Thats my honest opinion.

Ps. If you reply, I might be a while responding, Im off to Burger King with the GF & son but I WILL be back :D

    :good

Why are you making a joke out of it mate. I just feel that Khan coming back from one of the heaviest ko losses any atg fighter has ever suffered, and coming back to produce the level of performances he has, qualifies him. Who knows what he may achieve here on in.

Tyson, well i believe that his obvious standing as the greatest head to head heavy when he was 'on' just outweighs anything going against him in this debate.

And Witter, he's the most avoided light welterweight in history, truly a genius in the ring, a majestic general who commanded every second of every fight to his full capability.
