Edwin Valero overrated!

No, it just means that half the people who voted that Valero is overrated don't know what the word "overrated" means or how it at least applies to a two division champ. I thought the Mosquera fight showed us Valero was thegoods. It's obvious that PAc's bandwagon fans need names that they know or recognize in order to know who is or isn't overrated in their eyes lol...

I am mesmerized by his fighting style.

Chin recklessly up in the air like a big fat pinata, his mouth wide open.

His double barreled wrecking ball fists, swinging wildly inside the ring.

Flailing maniacally like a deadly, killer automaton.

You just know that a good boxer can send his Venezuelan cranium up in orbit with a well timed head shot, but can also see that he can end the fight with one telling blow.

He's a South American wildman.

Crude and ugly yet you almost cant look away.

 

On topic tho, I've watched everything available on youtube (including his pro debut) and I can see that Valero has made constant noticable improvement in his defense and ring generalship. 5 or 6 fights ago he was still wrecklessly chasing opponents down in the first round, blowing his load and not worrying about getting hit one bit. In the Demarco fight he showed that he can have patience, work behind the jab and set up his big shots. He also showed really good head movement and footwork (he made Demarco miss quite a bit, except with that elbow), and he showed tremendous heart and will in the face of adversity. I thought they could have legitimately stopped the fight due to that gash on his head but he acted like it never happened. Therefore I was impressed.

Is he P4P material though? Eh...maybe. Demarco is a good fighter but not great, and I'll reserve my judgement for after Valero has beaten a couple of real challenges. If he steamrolls Joan Guzman and a couple more big name lightweights and/or Junior Welters, Boxing has a new star fosho.

 

Lot's of heart and potential.

i rate him between 30-40, and that's being generous.

 

He's all that and a bag of chips. He is already rated at #18 P4P by box rec and rightfully so. But hey, don't take my word for it, just hear what countless trainers, sparring partners and commentators have to say about him. When he was in SoCal, his sparring partners were top tier contenders in their divisions!


I hope the DeMarco fight showed to those who had never seen him before that his game is far deeper than what was previously believed to be a crude slugger. . .but I knew this all along since I've watched all available footage of him.


He is arrogant though and that may hurt him if he fails to listen to sound advice. He said JMM is "Ok, but nothing special" atsch. He is sorta full of himself, that's for sure.

 

How is this guy overrated? He's beaten a couple very tough fighters and is a 2 division champion. What makes him overrated -- because he hasn't fought Pac? Or because most people think Pac would slaughter him? I mean seriously, that is some very weak assumptions by the general public. Valero has done everything he's been asked for and he's in line for some very tough fights -- if he loses to a guy like Timmy Bradley or Lamont Peterson, then what -- is he "exposed" as a fraud by everyone? Hell, when you are repeatedly fighting the best fighters in the world you're going to lose in most cases at least once. Valero isn't PERFECT, but so far nobody has been able to handle him, and as far as I'm concerned he's underrated if anything at all.
