Sam Langford easily...it was a joke not to include him in the choices

Not sure, I think Monzon used clinching much more cynically, i.e. as a pace-controlling mechanism. There are several points in the Benvenuti fight where Monzon jumps into a clinch without even attempting to win an exchange, counter or anything else.

    Good point.
I said Greb, because I usually think of Langford as a bit bigger than a middleweight (165+ pounds) but he started off a lot lighter. And Greb weighed 163 - 168 most often too.

    Langford's probably the best answer.

I respect Hopkins discipline & dedication to his craft but seeing so many people now the last couple years viewing him as a ATG leaves me baffled.

But his resume isn't. I guess since there is lots of film for you to watch on B-Hop that it means Hopkins>Greb.

When it comes to shitty resumes Hopkins is a ATG.

    Nah.

If Greb was a fictional character they would have scaled back his acomplishments to make him sound more plausible.

H2H i mean, like the OP asks for. H2H he is folklore, you've never seen him actually fight.

H2H he is folklore. You have never seen him fight. You have seen his opponents fight and look at his resume, and you can come to the conclusion that he has a better resume. But H2H, what this topic is all about, as stated in the title of the thread, he is folklore.

I have seen Gene Tunney fight.

I know what Harry Greb did to Gene Tunney, and I also know what Gene Tunney would probably have done to Marvin Hagler.

Tunney is just the tip of the iceberg.

Let me get this straight - Hopkins saying he'd lose to Monzon holds indisputable weight?
