Macklin v Moore.

Matt Macklin set a ferocious pace and battered Jamie Moore with savage hooks and body shots. Moore was patient and picked his shots, landing the uppercut and straight left with increasing frequency. The action swung one way then another in a thrilling battle that ended with Moore landing a quick one, two onto the ever-advancing Macklin's jaw. Brutal.

I watched Chi v Brodie for the first time since I saw it live yesterday. What a fight.

 

Mantequilla Napoles vs Curtis Cokes 1; punch perfect from the Cuban master, his jab, head movement, lateral movement and shifts in feet make him an elusive target even when he's at mid-to-close range.

I didn't score it but had it one way traffic. Cokes was good but couldn't sustain anything. Got cut off in the 11th round as had to get to bed, have watched it before but just love Napoles in this fight.

Going to watch the 2nd fight today which I haven't watched before. Napoles was a master.

One of Britains greatest, Jimmy Wilde, fighting Pancho Villa, one of Asias greatest of all time.

People who say iold fighters were deficient need to watch this slugfest. It suffers a bit from the old film being sped up, but it's definitely watchable, even if it does repeat the first segment again without sound and then kick back in with commentary towards the end.

Sure, some of the shots are wild, but as I always say 'If Mayorga can compete nowadays, so can these guys'. Also, watch the punching form of Villa; brutal, and good variety of shots.

The stoppage is absolutely brutal as well. If you're a fan of the sport, you owe it to yourself to watch this :good

 

Pacquiao vs Sasakul

This is a very underrated Pacquiao win. Pacquiao was a very green 19 year-old in this fight, as he challenged Chatchai Sasakul for the WBC title at flyweight. Sasakul had only had the 1 loss and that was to a P4P top 10 fighter in Yuri Arbachakov, a loss he later avenged (which resulted in the previously undefeated Arbachakov retiring).

Sasakul boxed beautifully at times, especially in the first three rounds where he boxed the head off of Pacquiao on the back foot. In contrast, Pacquiao was very raw yet still displayed some of the characteristics we still see today as he charged at Sasakul with his combination of punches straight through the centre, yet for the most part he was unsuccessful in his attacks. There is a case for giving Sasakul every round until the stoppage, although I gave Pacquiao the 4th and 7th rounds as he found some big punches in these rounds.

In the 7th Pacquiao seems to start tiring Sasakul out a bit and in the following round he capitalised on this by stopping Sasakul with a brutal one punch knock-out which scrambled his senses and he was unable to beat the count, although he valiantly tried to.

Although Pacquiao was very raw and could have lost every round, this is one of his most impressive wins in my opinion.

 

It's a good win, considering Pac demonstrated his raw natural power to get Sakasul out of there, but I actually think the win gets quite overrated, here are my reasons.

As you say, Pacs hardly steamrolling his opponent

Also, I think people use it to justify Pac being a **** knows how many weight World champ. Fair enough, but I don't think this win showed that he was particularly good at Fly, rather than he has always had freakish natural power, even as a malnourished boy.

Fair enough, although I must say I haven't heard the '*******s' ever mention this fight so I didn't know it was an overrated win

Still, everything it seemed was against him and even though he was losing he found that knockout punch - similar to Fitzsimmons vs Corbett :yep

 

Don't need to they had iron chins, fighting as regularly as they did with much smaller gloves minus padding :good
