Roy Jones Jr. vs Derrick Harmon vid

Jones always had issues with Southpaw's. Jones is a Glass Jawed fraud.

 

I thought they called him reluctant Roy, because he never seemed to go after the best opponents?

 

He had a solid chin during his prime

 

No he didn't.

 

He was caught flush by Hopkins, Toney, Griffin and Ruiz and wasnt stunned . He was dropped by Lou de Valle and got back up. He was never koed before he moved to hw. So I would say he had a good chin back then

 

I honestly don't understand why Calzaghe is always brought up when Roy Jones is mentioned.

Calzaghe IS NOT ON ROY JONES'S LEVEL. PLEASE UNDERSTAND, this is not an attack on him. He is a good fighter, just not an elite ATG like Roy Jones. Its not a dig on Calzaghe, there are just some fighters who are better, which is no shame.

Roy Jones is one of those special talents that comes along every 30-40 years.

 

Yup. Although he stopped a few, he could've destroyed a lot of those guys, like Harmon. Even though Harmon was pretty good.

 

No... they called him reluctant Roy for his in ring sparring sessions of fights. Roy was reluctant to go for the kill and it made his fights become boring after some point. They would call him reluctant for not wanting to open up and put on the performances that he could have.

 

He fought a lot southpaws... I think up to the point of fighting Reggie Johnson he had fought 6 straight Southpaws and Johnson being the 7th. He handled a lot of them, but the first person to knock him down, was a southpaw and there is no surprise.

 

Keep in mind that is a southpaw and Jones was more reluctant. Calzaghe isn't a southpaw. But a more impressive showing of Jones should be from this Reggie Johnson fight. Not only was Johnson a better fighter than Harmon, but he had more power and tried to open up on Jones, just didn't end well for him, but valiant effort :good

RJJ weighed 193 for the Ruiz fight with all his clothes on + he didnt have to drain.

You guys bought the whole "I had to lose 20 lbs of muscle in 2 months" bs hook, line, and sinker.

 

There seems to be some controversy on how much Jones weighed on that day. On the official scale he was 193 and he was 199 on HBO's scale. I have no problem with him being drained for one fight (which he won), but to say that he was permanently affected is something different altogether

 

Roy toying with another overmatched , ordinary opponent. His priority was not getting hit , rather than trying to end the fight earlier. To me, he was boring at this point, being too careful about who he fought. It would have been a gas to see how far Roy could have gone if his willingness to fight anybody matched his ego and bragging. Kind of like Floyd now.

 

I would of loved to see Roy face the following guys: Benn, Liles, Nunn and Toney II
