What is the most highly skilled boxing match you've ever seen?

I'll cast another vote for Pastrano-Johnson.

 

you beat me to the punch, for modern times this was a chess match. I think Leonards power was the key but this was a modern classic

 

Seeing the highlights on youtube and looking at boxrec pretty much sums up your whole wide boxing experience, eh fleman? The Fleaman way to be considered an expert. Pathetic dandy that you are. Have a good day Princess. You can fool some of the people, but those with years of real boxing experience see right thru your sorry ass.

 

I think you have to be careful with someone who is not a huge boxing aficionado, because they won't have the eye for specific details that a well versed follower would.

So I'll throw in another vote for Leonard-Hearns I. It's a great "intro fight" to boxing skills. The ebb and flow of the fight is easy to see and follow, with different strategies being used, and it also ends in an entertaining knockout.

 

I have one of the fights, I will give it a watch tonight.

Archer looked class early on as he floated around. Loved his almost exclusive work on the jab in the first few rounds as he used half a step to get in and out of range and land his snappy jab. He was definitly a proper stand up boxer but at times Archer turned counter puncher and landed some very well timed rights.

I also liked Archer starting jabbing to the body then coming up and over with the right hand, that worked a treat. Especially when he brought in a feint to the body and used a left hook and right hand to the head.

As you say McGrain, early on Moyer looked to feint and bring on the right but adapted (i thought the adapted in the 8th and took the rest of the rounds) he turned his feint into a hook and closed the distance much better and drew Archer into more of a fight which suited Moyer.

Yeah it's a really good one.

Not a big fan of the pastrano Johnson fight incidentally.Johnson just marched after him and displayed a relative lack of imagination in it imo.Despite arguably winning, it was more a will rather than skill thing from him in it.Probably the combo of age, Pstrano's skills and not liking being the consistent aggressor stopped him from looking his usual self tecnically,for me.

 

It is quality.

No one has mentioned it and it is a quality fight, real technical and very very close - had it a draw myself.

One of the most technical and furious infighting I have seen is Ezzard Charles vs Lloyd Marshall II highlights.

 

Charles vs Louis is a real nice fight technically as well.

I think some people are getting away from the question here and are just naming their favourite fights that THEY enjoy. To answer the mans question in a nutshell is for him to show F.O.T.C. Thats as highly skilled (and exciting) as your gonna get. I know that contradicting my post above but im sure everyone would make an allowance for this particular scrap

 

tapia vs ayala wich i mentioned the other day was beautiful on all levels exciting but so skilled the in fighting of ayala an the combination boxing of tapia was so nice an the combination of both styles meshed an displayed some of the highest level of skills a pure boxing clinic
