Footage of Tommy Ryan!

There is no 1906 film on which to formulate an opinion.

 

You're right. I meant to say the 1907 video that was uploaded here. Ryan was much faster, smoother and on point in his youth.

 

So footage of a prime Tommy Ryan sparring with Jeffries does exist. I'll take that over a 1906 fight with Hugo Kelly. :good

 

The footage consists of a jog, then some light sparring. However the thing to focus on is the speed and movement of both guys. Jeffreis in his prime was quick as a cat. Ryan was pretty quick too, but rather polished and smooth by standard of old timers on what's left of the grainy films.

Ryan was Jeffries trainer for a while, and this was leading up to the Fitz fight. The film is out there.

 

There is no 1907 footage either. The film that was uploaded as Ryan-Kelly has been misidentified. It is actually Klaus-Carpentier. There is no known fight footage of Ryan or Hugo Kelly.

 

Or should i say, even in his old age, he looked a pretty good fighter I reckon that performance would be on par with something a prime Georges Carpentier could deliver! In fact old Tommy reminded me a lot of Georges Carpentier (or was that Frank Klaus!)
