Have you seen Battling Nelson v Ad Wolgast ?

Wolgast won by KO in the 40th round.
I've read that it exists on film, and is a ferocious fight fought at a ridiculously fast pace for the 40 rounds.

Anyone here seen it ?

 

There is no way in hell the entire 40 rounds exists on film.

 

I've seen the last rounds. I'm pretty sure there's a more extensive version out there. Battling Nelson took a savage beating at the end.

There used to be a website that had the final round of the fight in it but it doesn't exist anymore.

 

Can anyone get word to that 'RareBoxing' guy on YouTube about this? Does anyone on here have regular contact with the guy? If anyone can trace it I'd be willing to lay money on him being able to?? Would give anything to see that one!!

Remember reading about Bat & Wolgast years ago - very very tragic stories both of theirs - both ending up in Asylum's - remember I was a young kid when i read about their lives after boxing and it actually made me cry - the only other story that did that to me was the story about one time welterweight champ Johnny Bratton

 

I'd relish the opportunity to see any footage of Ad Wolgast, especially that fight.

 

I've seen him in action against Owen Moran, Battling Nelson and of course Mexican Joe Rivers (the infamous double KO).

seen ten mins of it about. That is not even a fraction of the complete fight lol.

I beat a complete copy of the fight would be pretty amazing.

 

I have highlights of Nelson v. Wolgast. They're originally from Big Fights Inc, so, presumably ESPN now have a full version. I shall upload these highlights onto my Youtube channel in the very near future.

Formally it was fought under the queensbury rules, but both fighters agreed that there should be no fouls called. Obviously given the nature of the two men, the fight ended up being arguably the most brutal and savage foulfest in history.

As others have said the stories of both men post boxing are very sad. In particular the image of Wolgast living as a moutain man for several years after his retirement is a gruesome thought. After all the punches he was so out of it that he believed everyday that he was in training the last day before facing Joe Gans (who had died more than a decade earlier) and would be seen running up and down the street shadow boxing in his hospital fatigues around dawn.
