Sonny Liston was called up by the investigation into Mob involvement in boxing, but that was in 1960.
Liston didn't rat anyone out or anything. Everyone knew that Liston's contract was kind of carved up several ways and certain mobsters had control of him. Liston probably knew less of the details about that than everyone else knew anyway.

As comical as I find this post, it's probably about as close to the truth as anything we've ever surmised.

I am not saying Liston did not takes drugs ,but people who knew him well ,say he had a phobia about needles, this would rule out the traditional way of using this **** would it not?

Yep, I did mention that earlier, in fact it's one of the conspiracy theory nut's cornerstones for thinking he may have been murdered. And maybe he was, though I don't think so.

It's possible to smoke heroin, of course. Perhaps he overcame his phobia.

In order to understand a doper you have to do it yourself..................otherwise you are talking out of your ass. No drug rehab will help if the drug addict does not truly want to quit or is simply to weak. Fact.

You can snore-smoke or shoot H..........it gets addictive real quick.........rule of thumb, 3-4 needle shots and you are hooked pretty bad, takes longer for the other methods but ultimately same results. A habit extremly difficult to kick.

One might be afraid of needles but once the Dragon is calling you forget all about needles and just want your fix...............Fact.......that might have been the case with Liston.

BTW, H is a downer, so if you have heart problems or if one takes uppers to counteract the heart goes up down left right.....you get my drift until it says **** it and that will be that.

I wrote a poem for class last semester about it...

I romanticize it a little, kind of chalk it up to childhood abuse/inability to handle fame and fortune and throwing fights, so he shot up even though he was afraid of needles because it was the only thing that let him escape his demons.

I don't know if it's what I personally believe, but people seem to like it and a relatively popular poetry blog posted it on their site when I submitted it. I also might have fudged the dates of the two Ali fights a little bit, but what are you going to do?

In any case, here's the link: http://poetry365.tumblr.com/post/300569732/sonny-liston-zach-yanowitz-for-12-17

Sonny was probably murdered. If he had lived, probably would've wrote a book, considering the current climate.

he died in a hotel room at the end of his boxing career. As a fighter how long did he have left? 2 fights tops. Liston was in fair shape in his last fight just 6 months previous to his death. since the police report described listons dead body as "well developed" he was still looking fit till the end- so there is no way he was forcibly given a lethal dose by anyone. If there was heroin in his system he put it there. maybe sonny passed out drunk and an angry hooker shot him up while he was out of it but i think the verdict should have been "miss-adventure", it was most likely a self inflicted accidental death. if the mafia did it he would have disappeared completely (like hoffa) or been found sooner, his body had been left for too long.
