ESB Rankings Vote - Who is the number 1 Super Middleweight

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by robpalmer135, Feb 28, 2010.

  1. WTF Abraham has 2 wins over Miranda but somehow only Ward gets credit for beating him? Abraham also KTFO of Khoren Gavor who is a tough summinabitch. Also, who the hell is Sartison, Siaca, and Mock? Marcus Beyer is a "major" opponent at SMW?

Boxing rankings are highly subjective, and you can pick and choose which arguments you want to put fourth but this **** right here doesn't make much sense. You can tell its a relevant question and you can tell Abraham is in the running...look at the poll numbers. The **** is close and I can see why ESB is having such a hard time with these rankings.

The difference is that all these guys are actually scheduled to fight eachother, so we'll know who the real #1 is real soon. :happy

AA, is very dangerous to anybody at 168, including Bute. Overall Lucian, is proabably the best though, based on skill, not resume.

I was just explaining why I have Bute 1. Abraham is very good and dangerous but 1 fight does not warrant a number 1. He can beat Bute but I wouldnt bet on it. Bute is a well established belt holder with alot of brutal stoppages in his defenses.

I don't do a computerized ranking so I can rank boxers on many criterias, not only resume. Froch has wins against a green and drained Jean Pascal, a win against Taylor, who was winning on points and was a couple of seconds short of winning the bout, and IMO he lost against Dirrell, at least he looked awful. Abraham, on the other hand, was winning on points against Taylor before ko'ing him. So I put Abraham in front of Froch. Not only because of Taylor but because Abraham does have a defense. Froch does not. Can you see there are many angles from which you can look at boxers before ranking them? And when you do that, Froch is not number one. Sorry.

Too early to say who's #1, but it definitely isn't Froch or Kessler.
If Bute was in the tournament, I doubt he would win it.
Ward - Dirrell - Abraham, all have the potential to be #1, in my opinion.

You can not win something like the super six by running and holding.

Only one of them was at SMW, but i had forgotten that it was not a MW fight. I'll add that one. That makes for two wins at SMW. Sartison is a solid SMW contender and has easily handled some of the fringe contenders in the division. Manny Siaca was the WBA champion in the world and a top contender in the division. Marcus Beyer was easily top 4 at the time and the WBC champion.

I don't see how these lists were subjective. It's tricky selecting who is a major opponent and who isn't, but you can just decide that yourself. Even then, you have to fish greatly to have Arthur Abraham (i think he is a great fighter, not trying to hate on him) as #1.

I didn't put fourth many arguments, it was pretty much just a list of the better opponents the guys had at SMW.

Yes i see he is getting some votes, but enlighten me as to why. If you want to say Kessler is not a good win, that's fair. If you want say Andrade is not a good win, that's fair. But even so, you would have to put Froch ahead of Abraham as he has the same win at SMW as Abraham does, and a couple more.

Assumptions doesn't determine rankings. Rankings should be based on accomplishments at the division with more focus, obviously, on their recent fights.

    Your reasoning stinks.

All this doesn't mean they wouldn't beat him.

I have him #1, but that doesn't mean he would beat everyone in the super six.

    Resumé at smw:
    1) Froch ( world champ, Direll - Taylor - Pacsal
    2) Ward ( world champ, Kessler - Miranda )
    3) Kessler ( 3 times world champ, Andrade, Mundine)
    3) Bute ( world champ, Anrade x 1,5 ) - Even with Kessler
    4) Abraham ( Taylor )

    Skills:

    1) Ward (Fast, slick, fights many angels, can fight many styles, can adjust in fight and Suberb understanding of boxin tactics.
    2) Kessler (SuberB jab, okay defence, good ring leadership, good chin, okay power)
    3) Bute (good body punch ??? ) - comment on this?
    4) Abraham (great defence, Suberb power, Suberb accuracy)
    5) Froch ( Great hearth and chin )

    That makes the rankings:

    Ward
    Kessler
    Bute
    Froch
    Abraham

hmm dosnt seem right froch above abraham.. But Abraham has no resume at smw and skills hmmm.. What kinda skills has he really showed us?

well with 2 fights its hard to have more wins than froch, add Miranda.

What kinda skills has he really showed us?: great defence, Suberb power, Suberb accuracy, Ring intelligence, convidence, great heart, chin...

now compare to the skills you listed for froch and the manner both handled taylor...

If the only skill you can find in Bute is his body punches, you're plainly ridiculous. You can write the same thing you wrote for Andre Ward, it applies for Bute too. Just add power and experience. You can give a good inside game to Ward, who is by far better than Bute in that matter.
