In an interview done on another site, Mayweather claims that Cotto is ruined and even compared him to post Chavez Meldrick Taylor. He also stated that his two losses came at the hands of two cheaters and that he would probably still have his swagger if he wouldn't have fought guys that cheated. He also states that Shane is being overhyped based off of beating a walking punching bag who was only beating good fighters due to having loaded gloves. He said that Mayorga couldn't hit him with a right hand and was tagging Shane with right hands all night long.
Some agreement but the cheating statements goes too far. No proof. But yeah Moseley was fighting a punching bag in Margo.
I read the interview. He also went on to say that he shouldn't have a problem beating Yuri Foreman because Yuri is a feather fisted puncher with only three knockouts.
he's also wrong for saying that Mayorga was tagging Mosley with right hands all night long. That's really not true. After the first 3 rounds, Mosley took over. And Cotto doesn't have any less swagger now than he did before he lost to Margarito. If you look at the end of the Mosley fight and the end of the Clottey fight, he pretty much has the same type of late round breakdown. And he looked just as confident going into the Pacquiao fight as any other fight. And he says Shane is so overhyped but then why is Floyd like a -300 favorite at the bookies? He's wrong on all counts. I don't see what are his good points.
I know Cotto is finished. Do you think 'pre-margarito' Cotto would allow Manny to lay on the ropes and just sit there in a shell and look at him??? It's like he didn't know what the hell to do to him when he did that.
sure he does, he's just stepped up his level of competition. Mosley, Margarito, Clottey, and especially Pacquiao is not the same as Quintana, Judah, Urkal, and Ricardo Torres.
Agreed. He used to take punishment and still give it at the same time. Nowadays it's like once he gets tagged he's on the defensive. I think the yuri fight is good for him, tho.
You could say that about any fighter after a loss, who is yet to bounce back. Vitali, Wlad, Haye, Adamek, Hopkins, Tua, De La Hoya, Trinidad etc., all took time to get their aura back after a loss. It doesn't mean they are done or they've lost it forever, though.
I agree, I think that is a big part of why he has lost his edge too. Beating up the 140lbers he was a wrecking machine, a force of nature. Now he has awoken and realized at 147 he isn't that guy, he needs to be a slick boxer to survive and he doesn't have the stamina for that. This general realization and the beatings he has taken have damaged his psyche for good
Ok you are right. I agree. In my opinion, he will never get it back though because it wasnt' like he got caught by a big shot and lost, he has been thoroughly beaten to a pulp twice and was forced to retreat and "box" to a controversial points decision by two other fighters. In our eyes it isn't that bad, in an elite fighters head though, that is hard to deal with being that HE used to be the guy breaking opponents wills. :deal
