It would take him a year to reach blue belt. At least. The first six months would be sweating enough fat off to allow him to close his guard lol...
James will be competitive...his natrual instinct as a FIGHERT....not just a pure boxer will allow him to surprise nay sayers about this move. He'll make people miss and pay if they don't have the right strategy going in there with a fighter like james.
This is going to be embarrassing for Toney and will only serve for some narrow-minded MMA fans to conclude their sport is somehow "better" than boxing. No-one is going to stand with him and his boxing stance will leave him open to take-downs. I just can't see how this can possibly end well.
My point being is that Lesnar didn't know what the hell to do and got caught. Same thing may happen to Toney and is the reason I'm so confused as to why the hell he wants to do UFC. Money?Ha, good one.
Hopefully Toney can deliver at least one performance like this before he gets smashed. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUx9OE7DZAo[/ame] :deal
It will happen! But we'll also see James loose some fights on the ground as well. Loosing on the ground will force him to take interest in learning how to manage on the ground. I think james will do well.....NOT great....but Well.
His only wins will come by way of a cracking punch while on his feet. He won't win the fight if it goes to ground. It's like putting in a wrestler who has little in a boxing match against someone who has been boxing their whole life. Those advanced skills take years to perfect. Toney will grasp the basic skills. I guarantee you he won't win anything by way of submission.
all it takes is just one right hand and the opponent is down...PLEASE knock someone out tony!!!! What a laugh boxing fans would have [again]..first mercer and now another old boxer..
What do you mean? Lesnar is very good on the ground, granted he got caught by Mir's sumbission but it was Lesnar who took him down....
I agree with you....Even if a sub was available James is that type of cat that wouldn't take it. He'd think it would be "Homo-esque" But I agree he won't be a black belt in BJJ or anything close to it.
Lesnar's a great wrestler. He's not, though he has improved his defence, a great offensive submission grappler. There are no submissions in amateur wrestling. With Lesnar's takedowns, positional control and ground and pound I doubt he's ever going to need to develop great offensive submissions. Well, to the level where he'll be submitting top submission grapplers. I'm sure he is going to work on his submissions.
If Dana White wants to humiliate Toney and the sport of boxing, he'll throw him in there with the best submission artists they have. The UFC doesn't give their own fighters easy matches and I think he'll be even more likely to match Toney as tough as possible. I'm not looking forward to this at all.
