When the hell did Roy Jones ever NOT back into the ropes? My goodness, even the mediocrity known as Johnny Ruiz backed him up into the ropes. Marciano brutalizes Roy in four and that's not because I rate Marciano extremely high or anything, I just think less and less of Roy at LHW and above since he hasn't beaten great competition at those weight classes.
Strength, toughness, and durabilty are good attributes to have - however - that alone isn't enough to win in the boxing game, nor is it enough to overcome Roy's advantages in; Skill Speed Ring Generalship Reflexes Reach Footwork In no way does Marciano's attributes offset Roy's advantages. Slow ass Marciano never even lays a glove on Roy...
I'd favor Foreman over Jones simply because he is so much bigger than Jones. I'd give Jones 50/50 to beat Frazier.
his entire career until tarver 2 pretty much. the rare times he was backed into the ropes (paz, brannon) he was magnificent at working off them. granted those weren't the best opponents but at his best you couldn't trap the guy
You have to remember that Marciano's reach was 67". Roy Jones' reach is 74" That is a 7" reach advantage for a much faster Roy Jones who actually even weighed more than Marciano, when he was at Heavy. I agree Marciano probably would win this fight, but I think it is closer than most think.... I have noticed peoples assholes pucker up tight when an old fighter is mentioned losing to a modern fighter, but Roy had a chance of outpointing him
john l sullivan would beat ali, frazier and foreman before getting drunk, working his way through a whorehouse and then beat tyson and holyfield using only his left hand. what's your point?
Anyone see the Glen Johnson fight ? I'm a huge proponent of styles make fights ... who wins a fight against Marcino without a chin ? Answer, no one ...
Was the Roy Jones that fought Ruiz proven to have no chin???? Nope, get those comments into a hate thread where they belong. Roy was 35 when he fought Johnson for Christ sakes...
