UFC now officially confirm the news. http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=78935 Also Toney has been training with Rampage's former trainer Juanito Ibarra. http://mmajunkie.com/news/18158/tra...c-signee-james-toney-in-transition-to-mma.mma
Toney couldnt **** talk his way into a undeserved title fight and he knows at this point that he wont get past a few contenders to EARN his shot.
I can already see it now, Toney will be getting beat up and joe the *** will claim 'WOW, and we are talking a pound for pound boxer here, and a LEGEND in their sport' :-(
I hope he does well, but I have doubts about him surviving very long once they get him off his feet. He must be in a mad dash/cash grab in his golden years. Why else would he do this? He's opening himself up to some major humilation when some young punk with one tenth Toney's skills embarrasses him by twisting his arm and causing him to tap out. Anyway, I support him, regardless, as he's one of our own. Go, JAMES!
Did you happen to catch Herschel Walker's debut in MMA? The guy he fought looked like he's been training for six months. OK, someone worse than a tomato can.
Actually, Kimbo has been confirmed as a possible opponent since he has horrible grappling skills as well.
After watching UF HW, Toney has conditioning on par or superior to most UFC hopefuls. I just can't see him putting in the work to get decent on the ground. Also, he could nullify the kick, but he would have to improve his footwork so much that again, I can't see him putting in the work. I wish him the best because I think the hand game in MMA is horrid, though obviously effective.
Brilliant move on MMA's part though. They have nothing to lose. If Toney gets in there and gets schooled boxing looks that much more irrelevant to a 14 year old.
