I don't know why people keep talking all this crap about James Toney. If he was so fat, washed up, and sorry why haven't any of these up and comers retired his old ass? Haye? Adamek? They know.

If Toney got some GOOD paper for this great. If he goes in there and knocks a fool out like Mercer did UFC is going to look bad. If he gets his ass choked out Boxing will look bad. Dana is playing chess not checkers!

    :rofl

It's never a good idea to cheapen the sport of MMA by "strongly suggesting" to anyone not to take the fight where they have the best chance to win. Kimbo aint Mir or Lesnar, if he can take Toney to the ground and dominate him on the ground than Toney REALLY doesn't stand a chance in MMA.

Kimbo might not be the best fighter in the world but he isn't a moron. Did you see the fight against Mercer?

I just hope they don't put a Burger King advertisement near the ring. I wouldn't put it past Dana White, and Toney would be defenseless.

I disagree but even STILL a "shot, washed up ex-champ" is a HUGE test for your second pro fight.

    Your point?

Adamek couldn't even put down Jason Estrada. Like I said, Arreola, Adamek, Haye, etc... Won't retire the old man!

They they know they stand a good chance of getting embarrassed.

Probably as much an indictment on boxing and boxing fans as anything else. Boxing is seen as a single elimination tourney. One loss sets you back years in your career sometimes. Guys can't afford to face tough challenges sometimes. The high risk/low reward thing. White pays to set Toney up for a fall to make MMA look better.

this is why dana is a farce. toney is a 'spent shell' who has pretty much looked washed up at his best skill (boxing) since the 2nd Peter fight (and well faded even before that). I'm pretty sure he has no MMA background at all (tho he might have been a high school wrester- he was a standout football player but that was over 20 years ago). Plus he's like 41 and is always out of shape. So he signs Toney to a mult fight deal after bashing Strikeforce for putting on Herschel Walker. Walker at least has a martial arts back ground and took training seriously. Plus Walker will be in much better shape at age 65 then Toney is in now. White's a total hypocriite who can rarely be take seriously

I would preferred Ray Mercer, he is in the top mma rankings.

Not even six months, that guy had NO ground skills whatsoever. I don't know where the **** they found him or who he beat.

Well I agree, but it happens all the time nonetheless, and it'll probably happen this time. It's in nobody's interest to see James get taken down and pounded out brutally.

Kimbo isn't a black belt lol, but he probably has good solid blue belt skills, verging on purple. He's not great on the ground but he's no joke, and if he gets on top of James I don't think James will get him off.

re the other guy talking about Lesnar/Mir, that's a little different. Lesnar was a world class wrestler, and all he needed was some anti-submission techniques. He was probably well prepped as far as not giving up his back and how to keep his elbows tucked etc, but that kneebar was just too advanced for him at that time and a very intelligent move on Mir's part. Leglocks and anklelocks are always trouble for beginners.

James is the master of the shoulder roll, and sliding punches off the top of his head and all kinds of tricky **** that works great with boxing gloves, not so well with a naked fist. You don't need to land a shot full force with a bare fist, a grazing shot can wobble the **** ouf of you. That's why I fear James's skills won't translate well. He has a tricky, slick boxers skill-set, and I think that's the wrong skillset to have for the cage.
