I had to go to Boxrec just to "jog my memory" and still couldn't find a PPV Card that was "Stacked" and gave the "Home Viewer" at least 4 Quality Fights with Top-Shelf Fighters Fighting for Legitimate Titles. If anyone rembers a good Card...Sound Off. And do you ever think we'll (home viewers) see that again???
Was DLH-Vargas on PPV? I don't remember, but I do remember that a couple of weeks ago and I was on break and I went on Boxrec, and I looked at the card and It had Campbell, Cotto, and Pavlik on it, and I said wow looking back this was a big name card event.
Yes DLH-Vargas was PPV and one of the few PPV fights to live up to the hype. Looking on it now it looks like a big name card but in 2002 it wasnt anything close. Cotto was a upcoming prospect, Pavlik wasnt even really heard of until like 2006, Campbell had yet to win a World Championship.
A couple of recent ones would be. Marco Antonio Barrera vs Rocky Juarez II Jorge Barrios vs Joan Guzman Israel Vasquez vs Johnny Gonzalez All 3 World Championship fights that on paper was basically locks for excellent fights. Undercard was good Barrera-Juarez II was nothing like the 1st. Floyd Mayweather vs Zab Judah Juan Diaz vs Jose Cotto Jorge Arce vs Rosendo Alvarez Also 3 Championship fights. The undercard promised to be entertaining and the main event was heavily hyped. If Judah had beat Baldomir this fight could have been promoted like Hearns-Leonard like Arum orginally planned so that loss killed the luster somewhat of what could have been a huge event instead of a big event.
Thinking over it the last one IMO was the Mosley-Cotto card over 2 years ago. Miguel Cotto vs Shane Mosley Antonio Margarito vs Golden Johnson Joel Casamayor vs Jose Santa Cruz Victor Ortiz vs Carlos Maussa You got a main event between 2 elite fighters who have strong wills and put on exicting fights and it turned out to be a outstanding 12 round battle with several momentum swings. The dangerous former titilst Margarito returning agianst a capable veteran. Casamayor defending the linear Lightweight Championship and a super hot prospect facing a former World Champion.
I think in this day and age of "PROMOTER GREED"...We will only see The Main Event being the fight matching two TOP-SHELF Fighters for a Legit Title. The Undercards will be filled with Past Their Prime Fighters (Jose Luis Castillo) or a Prospect Showcase (Danny Jacobs, Saul Alvarez or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.).
Most recently, probably Mayweather-Marquez. Even though up top was a mismatch, the undercard was pretty ****ing good with Chris John-Rocky Juarez II.
