They will try and build him up so they can make money. Dana is a business man.

Toney started boxing very late and especially for some one who is so talented at the sport. He was a very good high school wrestler before hand. I don't like thought of him being in UFC but i expected it...he's really going nowhere in Boxing and we all know James likes to be center of attention.

He's going to get totally owned. Like said above he just doesn't carry the kind of one shot concussive power to get himself out of jail and once he gets taken to the ground it will be lights out for Mr. Toney!!

If he can keep it upright, he won't lose. Even against Lesnar, Toney would beat the **** outta him.

As soon as someone takes him down, he'll get pummelled.

With smaller gloves, Toneys precision and punch output would be too much for any UFC guy. They jsut do not have the punching technique down like Toney does. He also has a cast iron jaw, so unless he gets taken down I can't see him taking a beating, even at his age.

There is a rumour going round (I don't have a source so dismiss it if you will) that Toney called out an MMA fighter at the Wild Card....TO THE PARKING LOT!!! Where he beat him up.

Probably bollocks, but an interesting tidbit nonetheless:good

But how many MMA or UFC fights end up with an upright knockout? Not too many from what little I've seen so he will get taken down and will get soundly beaten, small gloves or not

I agree with this. Toney is a natural fighter full stop, a born fighter. The things that most people take years and years of practice to TRY and master, just come completely natural to him and he'd probably still be a bad-ass when he's in his 70's!

I think with the technique, counter punching and chin, plus the lighter gloves, he would be one of the more succesful boxers in MMA. Even people trying to take him down would get starched on the way in IMO.

Still though, i'd rather not give the UFC any publicity off boxing's back.

Look this is simple, Toney has better technique and harder punch than any of the UFC guys, but they aint gonna go punch for punch with him, they will kick his legs a bit then take him down and choke him out. Would like to see him and Kimbo going at it though, Kimbo would get pumped though

Macheda vs Evans is the most obvious one I can think of between titlists recently.

Bisping was sparked before he hit the ground.

Toney is just so much more advanced at punching than these guys. As I say, he'll be fine if he doesn't get taken down. I think he'll probably get Kimbo first:lol:

Toney will obviously work on landing punches on people as they come in to take him out. Will it work? Maybe.

I'd personally prefer him to stay in Boxing; with his chin/skillset there are still legacy-building fights to be had, even at Heavy.

If he never comes back to boxing, I'd have Toney in he 75-85 range in my top 100 P4P list.

    Didn't I say that?:huh

And yeah, I think Kimbo is a viable opponent, you get there just before me with that one, an easy fight to start Toney off, Kimbo is one of the most useless 'fighters' I've ever seen, and has fought Mercer before so will be another 'ex Heavyweight pro' vs Kimbo fight:good

To be honest I think Lesner would run at him and pummel him. I think the elite stand up fighters will dare to mix it with him stood up but will obviously not try to box him.

In which case Toneys lateral movment/defence will be enough to see him through 15 minutes and a decision. But I agree, I can't see him taking on any 'legit' ground n pound guys; I think he's just in it for the money rather than the legacy.

Yep. I think some of the kick boxer types will want to dance but anyone with sense will try and take him down. To be honest the heavyweight division is pointless at UFC right now.

Cain vs Toney would be interesting.
