Get him to learn a bit of grappling and throw him in with someone like Kimbo

I know exactly what ur saying, but the media and MMA fans will spin it a completely different way. All they will highlight that Toney was multidivison champ, and an ATG fighter if he gets beat. They will ignore the fact that he is now way past his best.

It seems fair to me. Kongo's strength is his striking and he has a very weak ground game. Lesnar got Mir in his first fight which is a bigger test than Kongo I think. Toney will be coming to MMA with as impressive of a boxing background as Lesnar had a wrestling background and he isn't a young man. If he wants to make any sort of noise in MMA he is going to need to progress quickly.

It is shameful how quickly boxing fans demean an all time great boxer like James Toney as a washed up has been. Boxing fans are too judgemental of fighters, I think, and if they aren't Ali or Tyson than they must be a bum tomato can nothing.

Also, MMA fans who say "Toney is going to get destroyed by any MMA fighter" are discounting his amazing boxing credentials. Sure, I don't think he is going to be an MMA champ or anything but I know better than to say he doesn't stand a chance and set myself up for the "BOXING OWNZ MMA U SUCK!Q1" that's going to come if Toney gets some wins under his belt. Boxing is not as well suited as wrestling for transitioning into MMA, but James Toney is one of the greatest boxers of all time and that has to count for something.

Also, who knows about his power really. Elite pro mma fighters don't usually have the same caliber of punch resistance as elite pro boxers because they have more avenues for defense. With 4oz gloves against MMA fighters Toney could have some real pop.

    Just ****ing great.

I remember for a year all the MMA fanboys were using the Mercer loss to Kimbo against boxing.

"Nah dude...even Kimbo beat that boxer in the ring bro, just imagine what Lesner would do to him bro, bro, no what i mean bro?

He'll do okay against bums and stand up fighters. There is no way they'll hurt him like that but they'll damn sure get hurt themselves.

Soon as he faces a good ground fighter he's absolutely ****ed. His movement is crap these days so they'll be able to get past his punches and take him down.

This is exactly what Im worried about. MMA loves to get old, washed up, fat out of shape boxers who can no longer compete in boxing, and then try to claim that defeating them proves superiority.

Thats the point Lesnar would take him down.

Lesnar far to big and athletic for Toney.

Ray Mercer has done ok so far.

ok Kimbo beat him but still. He did't get hurt or anything.

If these guys want to test themselves then I don't see why not. I don't really get into the whole MMA vs Boxing thing. I like both and see them as totally different sports.

Kongo has very good kicks. He can easily smash Toney without really needing to let him get in range to do anything with his hands. He's a top 20 HW, first fight would be suicide.

He will do alot better than most think..
It all comes down to his condition.

    Toney is a born fighter.
