Napoles is unbelievable, one of my favorite fighters ever, brings a new meaning to the word smooth. His footwork, balance, combinations are out of this world. The scary thought is that Napoles was suppose to be as good if not better at lightweight than welter. Shame there is little footage of him there
And to think this guy was a natural 135-140 pounder...He would have been a wrecking ball down there..a smooth and graceful wrecking ball.

"Mantequilla" was one of the best. I agree with Ricardo "Finito" Lopez when he said... If Napoles would of stuck to his style of fighting against Monzon, the outcome might of been very different. But Napoles was trying to appeas the Mexican fan base that adopted him, and fought like a Mexican in that fight. It wasn't that smooth style, it was that blood and guts rugged warrior style.
I don't know about that. He fought really the only way he could, which was to attack in spurts and look to land those scythe-like hooks of his. If he tried to box Monzon he wouldn't have even troubled him in the early going, as he did. A knockout is really all he could've hoped for, as unlikely as that was. He was never going to win that fight; no fighter his size ever would.
You may be right about a fighter of his size never beating Monzon. But I do feel that if he would of stuck to his style he would of Gave Monzon a little more trouble, might of even pulled off a close decision win.
To be honest, I just think that would've made it easier for Monzon to take the initiative. I don't think it would've ever lasted much longer than it did. No way he's ever beating him, that fight was the classic example of a truly great big man beating a truly great small man. The size disparity was ridiculous. Monzon was a big Middle, Napoles a small Welter. I wouldn't favor any natural Middle over Monzon, much less a man of Napoles's size.
