Serious ... from a boxing standpoint, what has he done wrong? ... and does your view of him also discredits his opponents? ... despite being called a cherry picker, he's put up his undefeated record time in and time out. Despite what you guys think on the level he's on the playing fields are as level as their going to get. You have set weights and there has to be some form of ability thrown in there tool.

I've made my criticisms of other fighters but to be honest those guys were accomplished and great in their own right. If they weren't he wouldn't have picked them or allowed the fight to happen and the same goes for HBO PPV for backing the fights.

Those guys he beat a vast majority of them put in work against good fighter who were accomplished yet there was something that Floyd Mayweather had that pushed him into the victory lane.

This thread isn't limited to Floyd, I would also say the same thing for Calzaghe. Who showed me in his last two fights that he was far superior fighter than anyone close to his division.

As far as actual boxing goes, people discredit Floyd because he is looked at as being too careful, not aggressive enough...not exciting enough, and to some degree, it's true. Baldomir and JMM were impressive performances from a "sweet science" standpoint, but he didn't do what guys like Pacquiao or Mosley would have done in they were dominating in the same fashion Floyd was in those fights - knock someone out, which is why they don't catch as much flak as Mayweather. Not knocking JMM was borderline inexcusable. The is no good reason why you can't - or refuse to knock out a guy that much smaller, who you are dominating that much...no good reason.

I like Mayweather, but it's reasons like that why he catches so much **** from critics. He pats himself on the back way too much, when more humble guys -like Pac and Shane - do the more exciting and impressive work.

The majority of fans are clueless about styles and don't know what the hell is going on there so most of them root for or against fighters based on personal life and interviews.

It takes alot to be a prize fighter and it takes an extreme amount of talent, skill, and ability to compete on the top level.

It's simple. People hate when you on top and keep winning. Add to that, he's just a very arrogant and cocky son of a ***** who can back up what he says by racking up Ws in the win column. People generally like the humble guy more, but never like that aggressive arrogant **** talker. But at the end of the day, when he was humble and calling names out, he wasn't getting the shine he gets now - so he plays his position and continues to rack up the checks. #1 rule in boxing is hit, and don't get hit. But people can't appreciate his style, which he does and makes it look to easy.

A lot of fighters "cherry pick" torward the latter part of their careers for safer, bigger fights. When it comes down to it, Pretty Boy is a six-division champion. That's "great!" He IS an all-time great! He is NOT, however, an all-time great welterweight (at least not yet). People seem to forget about Floyd before he moved up to welter.

Unfair... That's like criticizing fighters (in MMA) for winning by submission, reather than knock out. This is the Sweet Science, not MMA!

After Floyd took Arum's hand out of his pockets, Arum told me to hate him, so I listened to that bastion of honesty.

How can you say there is something wrong with him when he came from a poor family and made himself into a multi millionaire? Sure, he was born with a gift but without hard work and intelligent business planning you can't get to where he is today. There is such a huge double standard against Floyd. Mike Tyson was Boxing's biggest villain and has probably been arrested more than any other boxer in history. Yet he still has a huge fanbase. And people paid to see him win, not lose.

I think a lot of people can take a loud mouth athlete, as long as he can KTFO everyone that he faces. And as long as he's got a good sense of humor.

Charles Barkley, (NBA great) was a worse **** talker than FMJ, and had a nasty mouth/attitude when he was still playing. But he always performed in exciting fashion inside the basketball court, win or lose. And he was a genuinely funny guy.

People sorta liked him even if he was a bit of an ass.

Overall, I actually think Floyd is well liked. I think the media treats him pretty well and the fans do a great job of supporting him. He gets a lot of hate on these messege boards but that's because he hasn't been knocked off his high horse. He's at the top of the mountain flinging mud and no one has been able to knock him from his perch. No one gives a damn about the nonsense that guys like Judah, or Mayorga, or Toney or Hopkins spew. Those guys have all been knocked off their high horse. They've all tasted defeat and/or have hit rock bottom. Floyd always says he takes the least punishment and makes the most money. That's not supposed to happen in boxing. He talks a bunch of ****, is a defensive fighter, has never lost, and is the sports biggest draw. He has never faced true adversity, he's never been humbled, and hasn't felt what its like to fail since he was in the olympics 14 years ago.
