Running as in avoiding confrontation is ring generalship if it represents the best strategy for victory.

well I've never seen people claiming that Cotto had good ring generalship and distance control against either Margarito or Pac, so it sounds more like hate than anything else.

To me the difference between running and boxing is when you let "hit and don't get hit" simply become "don't get hit". Nothing in scoring is more important that clean effective punching. When you let that go in the interest of not taking a single shot, then you are a runner. If you are avoiding shots and using your legs and movement to set up shots of your own and actually taking the openings and throwing with authority when you do throw, then you are not a runner. Another mark of a boxer (not a runner), is that when his opponent does close the gap and get inside, he fights his way out and gets back to his gameplan whereas a runner, either hugs on for dear life so the ref will seperate them and give him his space back, or simply runs for dear life without making his opponent pay for having invaded his space.

I knew who he was talking about.

And he didn't even talk about how he ran like hell for the entire second half of the Clotey fight. And even the last 4 rounds of the Shane fight. Yet, he is not known as a runner because people like him.

Please show me the post where people say that Cotto has great ring generalship and distance control against Margo, Clottey or Pac.

and everyone said Cotto ran against Pacquiao and Clottey.

Alot of fans are very selective in what they hear, because they WANT to believe there is a double-standard against their fighters, even if there isn't.

Yeah, because he lost. But he did the same thing against Shane and Clottey and since he was in MSG both times, he came away with the victory based on his "Ring Generalship"

Maybe but I've seen guys do what Cotto do and are called warriors where PBF is sticking and moving and not getting touched while winining rounds in the process and is called a runner.

I am a Cotto fan and don't see how the hell someone could FAIRLY give him the nod in the Clottey fight. Joshua won it in my opinion and running or not Cotto fought tough guys and I tip my hat off to him. Admitingly, he did run against Shane, Pac, Clottey, and Marg. I understand he doesn't do well against pressure fighters but running from Clottey wasn't called for. **** I hope he beats Foreman........

    WAR COTTO!!!

A runner is someone who's looking to buy time and survive and not looking to engage. Where as hitting and not getting hit is finding openings with your movement and setting up shots while not getting hit in return while still trying to win the fight. There's a big difference between the two but they are often confused as the same thing.

What confuses me is that a few months ago people never thought Floyd would ever fight Mosley. Now they are scheduled to fight and Floyd is still considered a ducker by people:huh ? Floyd Jr will never get the respect he deserves:-(

I agree. If he fights Pac next he won't get credit for that either.

You see. Even Cotto fans say that he ran against Shane, Pac, Clottey and Margo. But these kind of posts just go right above the head of certain fans who want nothing of it because it doesn't support their "double-standard" theory.
