Over here in the UK, we don't hear too much about boxers such as Cotto..You only find this info if you look for it, on this website etc etc.. Miguel Cotto is my fave fighter, but i'm struggling to find general info on him, other than threads about his previous fights etc.. What have you heard about him lately, with regards to; whether he has started any training lately? Whether he is looking for a new trainer? cos i heard rumours he might get back with his uncle. Has he said anything lately about his fight with Pacman, or his upcoming fight with Foreman? Anything about Margarito? Or just anything else in general.. Thnx in advance..
On the "On the Ropes Show" I think they said Cotto was looking into getting a new trainer but not his uncle. They said he was looking into getting somebody like Ronnie Shields which even though Shields isn't well liked on here is clearly a level above Santiago.
Im Rican so Im always reading the PR papers on info about Cotto. But there hasnt been info on him. He is looking for a trainer to work alongside Santiago, said no one is getting fired. And that the Foreman is still in negotiations. Besides that I only hear about when his promotional company has fights.
So far Cotto and his team are looking at fighting Yuri Foreman at 154, boxrec.com already says it's official for June 12. Otherwise nothing new.
I'm glad he's getting another trainer. Santiago is too young to be head trainer but there's no reason to get rid of him as long as someone experienced is calling the shots. Hopefully he gets back on track. Any other news or recent pics/vids posted here would be cool to see
shields isnt just a level above average, he is a damn good trainer, he hasn't had much success recently but he is on the level of guys like steward.
El Nuevo Dia is reporting that Cotto is in Florida looking for a new trainer. The article mentions cuban Orlando Cuellar (Gamboa trainer) as being contacted by Cotto's team. Link in spanish: http://www.elnuevodia.com/asomauncambioenlaesquina-681180.html
Boxrec.com isn't always up to date tho....I read that they were going to have the Cotto & Foreman fight on June 5th at Yankee Stadium and give JuanMa the june 12th spot....Not sure how true it is tho
I know it wouldn't make much business sense for Arum to do this, but I would prefer if Cotto & JuanMa were both on the same card fighting at Yankee Stadium. Throw in Calderon just to sweeten the deal and The Atmosphere would be crazy if that were to happen.
I wouldn't be against Orlando Cuellar joining team Cotto....I like what he's done with Gamboa since working with him. I think Stylistically it's a good match. Not to mention Glen Johnson hasn't been to shabby with him in his corner either.
