I wonder if all those posters who voted for Martinez by decision stopped to ask themselves one simple question before they voted. Can Sergio Martinez engage enough to win 7 rounds without Pavlik buzzing him with something big?

The answer is "no." Pavlik will catch him with something that buzzes him, and KP is one of the best finishers in the game. All most anytime he so much as buzzes an opponent the fight ends shortly there after.

I know I'm repeating myself, but an awful lot of people seem to have blinders on when it comes to Sergio's flaws and short comings. The man simply is not all that hard to hit. Williams is notoriously sloppy, and yet his connect rate went as high as 41% in at least one round. PW has faster hands than KP, but Kelly is generally far more accurate, places his shots better, uses better punch selection, and has far better timing. What if KP throws 60 punches per round (low for Kelly) and connects 25%? Can Sergio Martinez handle 15 flush punches per round from Kelly Pavlik? I think not.

Sergio drops his hands and dances and darts around out of range. He MUST be slick, right? :patsch Of course he could then connect as Paul would lung in so I guess that helped. He said he would use Paul's aggression against him and he did.

Pro boxing is entertainment to an extent so you can't fault him for a little show boating. I remember in Bute/Andrade 1, Bute would flourish on Andrade's guard with some really silly looking punches but the crowd would go wild so he would do it on occasion just for the crowd.

Someone in a front page comment claims Williams is now saying he will take 60/40. I've asked for a link....

    "Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
    And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
    And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
    The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
    He went galumphing back.

This pillow talk is cute and all, but Booradley & Hermit really need to get a room.

Pavlik throws shorter more compact punches than Williams does and I think that's going to be the biggest difference. Margarito and Williams gave Martinez trouble but they were throwning shots from a distance. Pavlik is going to be there and make sure those punches land flush.

Pavlik will have another KO defense !!

As long as Pavlik stays at middleweight I don't see anyone in or around that division giving him much trouble (outside of Williams) ... I can even see Pavlik giving trouble to many of those super middleweights out there. I like Bute but i'm not sure if he can withstand Pavliks body attack ... Kessler wouldn't stand a chance ... Froch will be a great fight but I'm not sure if he wouldn't get a UD loss ... Ward/Dirrell give Pavlik trouble with their movement ... And Pavlik when it's all said and done would probably finish his career at 175.

fitz...your posts are class and i respect your opinion. but i gotta ask what about paul do you think would trouble kelly more than sergio? i see both paul and sergio being broken down eventually but i see sergio giving kelly more problems until it happens.

watching williams i see someone who bangs all out and responds to getting hit by turning it on w/o much regard for his d. i see someone who doesnt use his height/wingspan like he should and stays in range of smaller fighters let alone kelly. he doesnt have much in the way of a jab to keep his opponents off him which i would think he would need to keep kelly from just bombing away at the target in front of him which williams would be. i think it would be more action but in all honesty i think the sneaky power here belongs to sergio b/c...well....he's a slippery ****.

however, i've gone back and watched sergios fights and he has fought the same his whole career and while he is slippery he does have some very bad habits so i agree he will get caught. his hands are low and he does tend to lunge in w/ that straight left with his face hanging out there. i would think after a round or two that bad habit would be taken advantage of.

    thoughts :thumbsup

If Martinez is as aggressive with Pavlik as he was with Bunema, Cintron, and Williams, this **** won't last more than 8 rounds. If he is less aggressive, he'll get stopped later on, or lose a very clear UD.
