    And your crieria would be?

Aside of that, as good as Leonard was, Robinson proved his far more than Leonard who suffers of lack of depth of resume and longevity.

Robinson, Armstrong, Charles, maybe Duran, maybe Burley. Not many guys though.

    I would say:
Roberto Duran, Robertson, and a few others.
But really Sugar Ray Leonard would give hell to any welterweight fighter and would probably beat Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather today!

    1. In deciding who would win head to head, I rely heavily on actual footage and less on resume if video is available.

    2. Longevity has nothing to do with how fighters would do against one another in a head to head fight, prime for prime. As for Leonard`s depth, we saw him against enough all-timers to fairly assess his ability.

Ah, there's he difference. I don't rate h2h at all. Too much speculation.

Would you agree that criteria's based on films favours he more modern fighters due to the advance in film technique, more cameras, more angles and so on?

    1. Fair enough.

    2. Yes. Easier to evaluate someone in high definition than it is on a grainy, black and white track that doesn`t translate well for continuity or fluidity. More angles definitely help.

At welter, only the original `Sugar`... He didn`t fight much at middle, so how he fares there is debatable. As for Pacman, PBF, Mosely. SRL`s, speed was right there, power SRL, and this is hwere the true difference lies, heart and will to win. Tell me that any of the current crop of welters had the the `stuff` to look down the barerrel of `Hitman` Hearns, and will them selves through it...Leonard was NAIL tough when he had to be... When talent alone wasn`t quite enough, his will to win was...

The odds of Hearns sparking Floyd out in under three are less than 3%. It`s just not going to happen, like it or not.

PBF doesn`t stand a chance against Hearns, and when PBF tries going to the ropes. And shoulder roll and slip his punches, Hearns speed and volume GUARANTEES that he will catch PBF... And this WILL happen before rd 3, because there were fighters who actually came out trying to win hard, fast and early. I can so see PBF willing his way past Hearns speed, power and reach and digging to that body and trying to take the fight from Hearns... Be serious, everyone knows that PBF would never have put his signature on that contract...

There are no guarantees in boxing. Hearns could be chinny and a guy like Trinidad or DLH had more than enough pop to put him on ***** street if they caught him with a good shot. I don't think PBF hits hard enough at ww to do the job, but you never know. I think we'll know a lot more about PBF at welterweight after the Mosely fight.

Leonard's normal style was to fight flat-footed. He liked to circle the ring fighting flat-footed, boxing in a very relaxed style, and then opening up with combinations.

Leonard changed from his usual style when he fought Duran in the rematch, and also against Hagler. He boxed and danced on his toes in those fights.
