I always thought this would be a good matchup.
Liston with the power, reach, jab, and scientific boxing skills.
However, Morrison would always have the hand speed, SHAKY chin, and I guess superior movement. He could slip some shots too. His heart is also better then Listons.
Personally, I think Liston takes this one, by 8th round KO.
Liston's power would probably be too much for Morrison to handle. I think Morrison's chin is a little better then granted seeing as he only got brutally KO'd ONCE. the rest were TKO losses. Liston definately would be able to take everything Morrison would throw, and I think more. His jab of course would back off tommy and maybe even stagger him but it would be the left hook that would nail Morrison.
Who do you think would win?

This is a "no contest." Liston will pummel Morrison big time.

    good match-up!

i feel liston would take this in both listons era and morrisons era, but it would be a great fight to watch! :good

As Much as I like Liston, I can't count Tommy out too quickly. Tommy had some power in his hands as well.
Like I said, I think Liston would beat him, but not that quickly. Liston would probably hurt him a lot judging by his losts with lennox lewis, mercer, and bent. These are not on the power of Liston; so who knows.
    I still pick Liston.

Tommy Morrison vs Sonny Liston? Tommy Morrison? Seriously? You know what, you must really be a thorough boxing fanatic (or maybe just a Tommy Morrison fan), because I would have thought up up 50 guys in a hypothetical historical match up scenario with Sonny Liston before Tommy Morrison came to mind...wow.

But, **** it, I'll bite...I always say that you can't compare fighters of yesteryear to fighters of today, but hm....and 1960s Liston against a 1990s Morrison? Only 3 decades separation? I'll go with Liston.

Surprised to see anyone matching these two. Unconventional. That said, Sonny Liston wins in an exciting fight.

Well Liston and Morrison are two of my favorite fighters. They're exciting.
I think it would be quite exciting as well. :D Neither of them would be backing off, cause they are tough guys. I have a feeling they would be trading in the middle of the ring.

I think the version of Morrison that came out against Merser could stop Liston early. But if it went beyond 3 or 4 round I would have to pick Liston evertime. Would Liston stand up to the bombs that Morrison hit Merser with. Those punches were wicked.
