I know that we cant do anything about it now and its all over but I still get pissed off whenever i rewatch the fight; Cotto was so much a better boxer in this fight but cheatos punches were from HW division.

  5. Cotto lost this fight because he fought it going backwards. And, as anyone who has ever boxed before knows, you don't have much power going backwards. When Cotto was throwing his power punches, he was doing so with backwards momentum a lot of the time.

Now, take the Margo-Mosley fight. Mosley was going forward throwing his bombs and we saw the result of that. If Cotto had taken this approach I believe he could've also KO'd Margo.

7tom1ja, it would of been a fair fight if Cotto would of borrowed your giant Ring.

nearly everyone who margo has fought has been a "much better boxer" but that isn't allways enough.

I don't know why people keep on coming with these... arguments supporting Margarito's caue. Margarito cheated. Sure, he was walking Cotto down latter on, but when you're getting hit with concrete, you'll back off eventually.

Most of Margarito's recent fights had similar turn outs. Slow start (soft plaster), powerful mid to late rounds (solid plaster). It's very probable that he used paris plaster way before the Mosley fight.

i agree in that i think he had his gloves loaded for that fight, but you're coming at this all wrong. margarito has always fought like that.

Cotto lost this fight because Margarito was the tougher of the two.

If you had loaded gloves, your philosophy...let me get this right??? Would be to stand there and trade shots with Cotto (hoping your chin and body hold out?) with him getting some darn good exchanges in bofore the 9th...
Sounds like this may have already happened cause it does not seem that you are thinking straight..this could explain it!

first loaded gloves for this bout remain speculation and not fact, 2nd loaded gloves have nothing to do with Margarito's chin. Margarito's chin, regardless of gloves, is what allowed him to beat Cotto...

With a bit of cement covering his hands, of course he was tougher.

You are ignoring the fact that... passed the 6th round Cotto was taking supreme punishment from a guy with loaded gloves. Cotto has similar power to Mosley really, but due to the solid punches landed on him, he was drained going into the final rounds. And don't give me the stupid speculation. Margarito, as other people have pointed, had a 50% KO ratio against lesser opponents. Suddenly, he's started knocking almost everybody out.
He should have been banned for life and all his wins rulled a no contest. There are enough risks in boxing without having people to use cement to enhance their pads.

I have no problem with boxing having harsher penalties for illegalities in the ring, even moreso when they are potentially dangerous. If margarito's cheating (I believe it was) endangered another persons safety beyond the norm of regular combat, I am in favor of harsher penalties...as long as they are consistant ie. tito trinidad and others.

There should also be penalties against performance enhancing drugs being used by any participants...but again they don't!

Boxing remains one of the worst governed sports, and that is likely not to change in the foreseeable future!!!
