:huh Leonard hadn't fought in any manner close to the defensive/spoiling type in the Duran rematch prior to the beating at hands of Duran. And people say Duran fans like to make excuses...

Please tell me your not one of those people? Duran DOMINATED the first half of the fight and had Leonard on ***** street until the 8th.

Duran was fine on fight night physically. He was getting beaten, Ray was making a fool of him, he wanted no more of it. You can't go use the bad shape card every time you lose a fight, especially if the footage undermines that. I know what Ray said, you don't have to keep repeating is like a broken record, but Duran pulled himself together and he got in the ring that night. If the man was a great as people have him out to be, he'd have tried to win until the final bell. He lost to another fighter outright, and I give Ray full credit for turning the tables on the man that bested him before. ...****, it's not like Duran came in on fight night weighing 200lbs.

    Stunning from Ray.

He's claiming I'm guilty of double standards by accepting De La Hoya's weight drain excuse but not the idea that Duran was physically inept on the night of his rematch with Leonard. You only had to look at Oscar on his way to the ring to know he was in big trouble, he hadn't made 147lbs in years and here he is on fight night weighing the Welterweight limit? When did Oscar ever enter the ring at 147lbs, even when he was campaigning at the weight in his prime? He didn't.

As for Duran, I don't see anything of the like. If Duran likes to blow up between fights then he trained like a mother****er, the best he ever had, and he got down in weight perfectly...looked fine on Fight Night. ****, at times he pushed Ray to the ropes and gave it his fullest effort, he was just out maneuvered by a better fighter on the night. Ray says a lot of stuff, he should have known what the Duran fan-base is like and they'll latch onto anything to get their men out of a bad beat.

SRL is probably the best welterweight in history ... he's conditioned to fight 15 rounds and he's able to pace himself, while showing great defense, power, speed, agression, awareness, and confidence.

I have never seen anything like him ... if anything he's a combination of all the great things that boxers possess ... and yes he was multi-dimensional.

    Sugar Ray Robinson
    Kid Gavilan
    Jack Britton
    Henry Armstrong
    Tommy Ryan

Oh, and I wasn't talking about welterweights but all-time. Sill those 5 guys trump Leonard at ww. They don't necessarily have the better top wins, not many have, but they have more depth and longevity.

  8. Lost to Duran, Hearns, and Hagler. Great fighter, but was given a couple of gifts against other greats.

The only gift Leonard ever received was when he was woefully past his best in the Hearns rematch, he beat Hagler fair and square. Let's see your scorecard, Stallone.

SRL definitly beat's Pacman, Floyd & Mosley. I do rate him as the best WW of all time though as people are pointing out there are some bouts that im "Iffy" over the result.

Leonard was brilliant in my opinion, as was Robinson.

  12. So why/how was Leonard "past it" and Hearns was not??? He ran from Hagler fair and square is more like it.

All come in mind in the first 10 seconds. Heck, even in his own era - Duran is better than him ATG wise and actually officially beat him prime for prime.

Leonard was better. Pryor had a better workrate, and that's about it.

And please, nobody get into that stupid Legendary Nights myth of Leonard ducking/fearing Pryor. Pryor was the one who turned down the deal, unhappy with the money.
