As I just stuck up for Chagaev, this shouldn't be taken as arguing against him but in all fairness to Chambers now, he's 27 to Chagaev's 31 and he took Dimitrenko's 0, along with beating Peter, Brock, Guinn and Rossy. This is all very good experience and these are good names to have for a 27-year-old heavyweight.
Chambers like Chad Dawson doesn't have a stellar amatuer pedigree compared to some boxers. Chambers fought 80 amatuer fights and won a Pittsburgh amatuer title. But he's been boxing since he was a little kid. In terms of achievements, talents, skills and in the form they are right now, Chambers is just the better boxer, that's so obvious to see. He is so much more polished. The performance Chambers put on Dimitrenko is something Chagaev could not do.
Powerwise I would put Chambers between Byrd and Chagaev. Byrd had some pop early in his career, he KO'd Jimmy Thunder for example. Chagaev once was considered a real puncher, but then turned out to be a class below. Still he got in a clean left hook after the bell of the sixth, and Wlad took it really well. So unless Chambers lands a whole barrage of flush punches, he won't be able to hurt Wlad. Wlad on the other hand can hurt anyone with single punches.
Perhaps a few years ago but I'm not so sure now. It's a tough one to pick because Chambers can be quite lazy and inactive in fights but if he brings the conditioning and workrate he did against Dimentriko, then he may have a chance. Chagaev has looked on the downward spiral of late. Personally I would much rather Chagaev vs Povetkin - that would be a war.
LOL, I wish there were a 1000's of better who thought like you did. Then I make some coin on Klitschko. Wlad took some flush bombs from Peter. I don't think Chambers hits that hard or takes as many chances. Wlad will win via late round TKO.
Unless Klitschko had an unsuccessful operation on his arm, I don't anything other than a Klitschko win.
I'd agree with this. I'd just like to see Chagaev fight again, not many fighters seem to come back from a loss to WK. I'd have to rank Chambers ahead of Chagaev now because of RC's inactivity
That does worry me, because Wladimir hits at such force. It could be quite easy for him to get injured again. Especialy with a guy with Chamber's style, and the serious nature of Wladimir's most recent injury. These both could be a factor...
I'm going to go with Chambers...I've seen him train fairly recently, and he looks twice as fast as he has before...I've actually never seen a HW quite as fast in person. He is also punching with surprising power...I just think that he will give Wlad fits, at the very least...
Chambers won't do that though...he's a slick, awkward HW with fast hands who's really hard to hit flush. The problem is that he won't get a decision fighting like that so he'll have to open up a bit.
What exactly is Chambers going to do different than Austin, Chagaev, Brewster II, Rahman, Thompson, Byrd or Brock? Out of this group, Chambers is neither the best boxer technically, nor is he the hardest puncher, he doesn't have the best defense nor does he have much better physical attributes than them. In fact, in a tournament between Chambers and this group I wouldn't be surprised if he did not end up in the upper half. It is painfully obvious that in historical comparison Chambers measures up as a dime a dozen. He just happens to be the best US heavyweight there is right now.
